Borkeplassen
Trondheim - Sør Trøndelag
This is what is been rebuilt on the plot who burned down in the December 2002 fire. Three modern buildings dressed
in wood and glass contains retail, office and residential. The buildings facing the shopping street Nordre Gate contains
retail in the two first floors and 18 apartments in the reminding 2 floors above. Behind these buildings a 5 story
office building is been built.
Construction started in September 2004, and is expected to be completed in February 2006. The 5 story office building
however is expected to be completed in october 2005.
The project is named Tjære Trondheim caused a lot of opposition. Many wanted to rebuilt this plot into what it was
before the fire, with low dense historic wooden buildings.

Here's an update on the Borkepklassen project. The building is now nearly completed. The first half was finished in time for the 2005 christmas season, the last half will be finished this month. The proposed five floor office building in the back was scrapped in favour of a backyard plaza, for cafés and restaurants. In my opinion the project is a resounding success, since this modern all-wooden commercial building definitely is a first, here in Trondheim.
PS. Sorry for the poor quality of the picture. Even a 2.0 megapixel cellphone camera can't quite do the building justice, it seems...
