It was placed on the national list on 1/19/05. This is from the neighborhood association's newsletter:

It ’s Official!! West Salem has taken it’s place on the National Register of Historic Places!
We plan to have a huge celebration on April 16 in Granville Park in honor of our achievement! Watch future newsletters — more news to come!

Music in the Park returns to West Salem!
April's Music in the Park will be very special. We will take
this opportunity to CELEBRATE our own West Salem, which was added to the
National Register of Historic Places in January! There will be special music, special
speakers, special guests, and special food. We will also recognize those who worked hard to help us reach this status.
Plans are underway as well for the 2005 series of Music In The Park. Folks, we have some great plans for 2005, and YOU will want to be part of the
excitement!

Me too. We purchased our house here in June 2004. I was working in the area at Ian's Body Shop prior to that so I knew there were cool things in the works for this area (Southeast Gateway, etc.). It's a great place to live that will only get better, IMO.
