I'm having faith that the movie will be somewhat good since it is a Dreamworks film.. a company that seems to have a good reputation for quality films, but we'll see.

Three new tenants have signed leases in Tech Town.  They are:

Bioko, an engineering research company focused on the development of microelectromechanical systems, formed by Wayne State University Professor Greg Auner.

IC Datacom, a network-services provider founded by native Detroiters Dwayne Carson and Terence Willis.

USA Skills, an online recruitment company for the information-technology and health care industries.

A high end cafe that offers catering and evening hours will be opening at 150 West Jefferson this summer.  The cafe will also have outdoor seating.

Additionally, a coffee shop, Grabba Java has just opened, and a sundry shop will be opening in the building in April.

Not related to Detroit, but since this is the off-topic thread under Metro Detroit, I'll post this picture of the computing center I'm at right now.  My computer is in for service, so this will have to do.  Dubbed "THE FISHBOWL"  It is the 2nd largest computing center on campus.  The one up at North Campus 3-4 times the size.  The Fishbowl is named for the fact that it is surrounded by so much glass.  Formerly it was a courtyard.  To my back is the 10 story Haven Hall classroom building.  To the right is the four story Mason Hall, straight ahead is the 4 story Angell Hall, to the left is the 5 story Tisch Hall.

Nice to see new smaller developments happening as well. The more shops the better.

It's good to see that TechTown is getting tenants, too. It'll be Detroit's best way of diversifying its economy.

Unmarked Police Car Found!

Well it looks like today the Detroit PD has found the the unmarked police car (a black, Crown Victoria, go figure), which was reported missing on Friday, in another Detroit PD lot.  Originally it was reported it was stolen from in front of the police HQ downtown, but poice are now stating that it was never stolen, was just unaccounted for.    Man I love the media, and city here!!!

Here's an interesting article from the Free Press

One of KK's best friends, Ferguson, is being investigated for pistol whipping someone.  KK is standing by his friend, even though the Ferguson is now being investigated for threatening this man who he pistol whipped because he was going to testify against him for this!  Shots were fired into his house days before he was to testify.  Oh yeah, Furguson runs a heavy-equipment company called Ferguson Enterprises and his company has millions of dollars of city contracts!

The Detroit Forum!!!!! This is the new Campus Martius Park in Detroit with a skating rink the size of Rockefeller in New York. During the spring, summer, and fall it is a green lawn with concerts. Compuware World Headquarters is located at the park. Visteon is also moving workers to a new building on the park.

If you haven't heard yet, Detroit's allustrious mayor was listed among the 3 worst mayors in the US (I don't think they were ranked) in Time magazine.  The other 2, the mayor of San Diego who almost lost to write in candidate who owns a surf shop, and the mayor of Philly who is being investigated by the federal government.  Way to go Kwayme!

Here's an article called The Harris Manifesto from the Metro Times

http://www.metrotime...ory.asp?id=7615

Joe Harris is the Detroit Auditor General and as his 10 year term is expiring the year, he took the opportunity to let loose about the state of the city's finances.

Definitely worth the read.

That was a great read.

I'd hate to be in his position for so many years. Working on a well thought-out plan and warning officials, but always being ignored has to be the worst. It must have been a great relief getting that off his chest. I wish he would've done that 3 years ago.

Fire Breaks Out In Dowtown Building

Fire broke out at a four-story office building in downtown Detroit at about 4 p.m. on Thursday.  Fire crews responded to the two-alarm blaze at the building at Bagley and Clifford streets, in the Grand Circus Park area of Detroit.
The office building has been rented out in the past but no tenants are currently in the building, the station reported. Its owner told Local 4 that its being used for storage.

Here's the rest of the story

http://www.clickonde...114/detail.html

Does anyone know what buiding this is?  I think this is over by the United Artists building.

It's the building next to the Statler.  Somehow, I feel it was related to the Statler demo.  There are a ton of photos (Rather blurry) over at detroit.com.  Check the thread "Statler is On fire" for more info.  At first, everyone thought the Statler was burning, but it wasn't.

EDIT:  One of Detroit's best photographers was on the scene, check out Urbantiki's photos at Flickr HERE

UT's shots are amazing.  He's lucky enough to work in Book Tower, so he was able to capture all the action.

Impressive. There are a lot of talented people on Flickr. I haven't been there in about two months, but I'm going start visiting again. There are a lot of great ideas and inspiration on that site.
