This building sits on the southeast corner of the intersection of Main and Park Place. It's vaguely triangular, brick exterior, and can be differentiated by the relatively fresh plywood covering the smashed windows. It looks like this in the evening.

No. You're thinking of the McDevitt Building across from China Inn. Old Colonial is a block to the left of where I snapped this shot. Lots of office space in McDevitt and improvements should start RSN. That corner space on the third floor is SWEET and formerly mine.

Oh I get it now.  They look so similar.  Isn't there a church or something in the one next to China Inn?

There is a store front church on the small strip of stores abutting the China Inn.  Those buildings are owned by the Pawtucket YMCA.  -- Herb Weiss

Herb I've been wondering about this for a while:  Why on so many streets around the city (i.e. York Ave), are there so many discontinuous sidewalks?  Were developers given an option of putting in sidewalks and just chose not to or something?  It's quite odd, they'll be concrete sidewalks in front of one house, none in front of the next, and then something like a strip of asphalt at the next house.

Also, there are two dirt lots on Central Ave that I'm wondering if anything is going up on.  One is right next the the Central Ave Bakery/Brazilian Hair Design building (I think its Central and Perrin Ave).  The other is right between Pawtucket Credit Union and the Church, just west of Newport Ave.  Any idea?

Well, I can see now that this is going to be surface parking for the church.  I guess it's okay since it's sandwiched between the church and the school anyway.  Something nice up to the sidewalk had better be built on Central next to the bakery/Brazilia Salon, or I'll really be pissed.

Herbs, who can I talk to about getting a pedestrian signal put in at an intersection, or a "yield to pedestrians when turning" sign.  The intersection of Armistice and George Bennet could really use one, I've almost gotten hit twice now by cars turning from Armistice onto George Bennet while walking west on Armistice.  There's no pedestrian signals so the only time you can cross is on the Armistice green.  With the train tracks there and the width of George Bennet it's a pain in the ass.

Do we know yet what is going on with the former Elks building on Exchange St.?  It was bought a few months ago but it doesn't look like much is going on?  It is a great building so I hope the new owner does something decent with it.

Hey Herb,

I have a question for you..

Other than have sandwiches named after you, what is it that you actually do?

I actually don't know what an Economic & Cultural Affairs Officer does..

Are you basically a PR person for Pawtucket?

Not really... Glad your interested.  I work with businesses, artists and art groups  throughout the City of Pawtucket and if they have issues I try to help solve their problems either at a City or state-level. I also work to assist businesses and artists get through the buiding code permit processs.  I oversee the Pawtucket Arts festival and raise money for that two week event.  When people are looking for spaces in Pawtucket I take them around town and show them spaces for either lease and for sale.  I also do pr, too, and lots of other things.
