It looks like if the senate passes the measure, design work will begin on a $16 million dollar expansion of the downtown campus. Does anybody know where they plan to put the addition?

Quote

Despite a potential $1 million in operating-fund cuts, there is hope the state will allocate $12 million in capital outlay dollars for the expansion of the Padnos College of Engineering and Computing on the school's Grand Rapids campus.

The Senate appropriations committee approved the capital outlay Wednesday, forwarding the measure to the Senate floor today. Pending approval from lawmakers and the governor, planning for the $16-million expansion could start this spring. To complete the project, GVSU would have to raise $4 million to add to the state funds.

i like this a lot. more good jobs downtown and more students downtown. together will help grow downtown to areas it hasnt seen before thanks to the large and recent influx of a college population from GVSU, Ferris-GR, WMU and the future MSU school of Medicine this will only bring bigger and better returns in the future.

Agreed. A solid student population downtown would add to the vibrance of the area. Students typically are not as isolated in their thinking of what is an "iffy" area, like to hang out and utilize the parks we have and are more apt to spend their money at eclectic downtown retail. The college population will definitely help anchor the downtown area.
