PS: Scroll down in the hotel story and click on the picture of Apple Reit expansion into the old Nathan's Tailor Shop on Main between 8th and 9th Streets. When I was in Richmond, I drove by and it appeared the new building was up and almost complete.
Also, I noticed lots of activity at the old 1st and Merchants Bank building at 9th and Main which is being converted to apartments. Is it just my eyes, or are they actually cleaning the old skyscraper's exterior as well?

I noticed last week that the old telephone company building on Nansemond between Elwood and Floyd Avenues near Carytown is undergoing considerable decorative work as well as general renovation.
They are doing roofline work to make the building look less boxy, and apparently there will be extensive landscaping and considerable parking space for the upscale market and other businesses which will occupy the building.

Another note from my ramblings around downtown Richmond last week: Many streets are in horrible condition. Main Street between 14th and 9th appears to be dug up for utility installations and is in particularly rough shape, but there are other stretches of pavement all over the city in dire need of attention.

The other day I posted a Times Dispatch story in the Arts in Metro Richmond thread about the merger of Barksdale and Theatre IV into what will be known as Virginia Repertory Theatre.
Since this topic (Developments in Richmond) attracts a larger audience, here is anothere take on the deal.
