We're really not too small of a market for any of these things.  It's a perception thing, that's all.

IKEA?  Well, that's another story.  They're very choosy.
I would just as soon we didn't get an Ikea...their prices are great, but you certainly get what you pay for.

We are small for a PF Changs as well but once is under construction.  I've heard the Cheese Cake Factory and PF Changs are big competitors, that they often enter the same markets.  I wouldn't be surprised if we got one, but I think it would go near the PF Changs, but then who knows.

I think a lot of places are on the books with PF Changs nationwide with their expansion plans.  So far we are getting one along with Columbia and Myrtle Beach.  I wouldn't consider PF Changs and Cheesecake as competitors at all!  Very different experience and food.

On the site about Riverplace...notice how it details the restaurant site as being designed for "two levels" and "large glass windows"?  Sounds like The Cheesecake Factory to me, or at least what their current spots look like (ie. Southpark in Charlotte).  Don't think a freestanding store in Greenridge would fit their style?

I don't remember where I read it, it may have even been on here.  But I have seen it somewhere that despite their difference in foods they are each others main competitor becuase they tend to target the same customers.

Yeah, I could see it from that angle.

Was downtown last night, went for a walk...the Stairs at Riverplace down to the promenade are now open, as well as the promenade as far as to the Riverhouse.  Also, from the premenade the parking garage is open, I was able to walk in side their as well.

Sunday, November 13, 2005:

I went over to walk around and take some photos this morning.  The new steps down to the Promenade are looking great!

I am in the process of uploading my photos from today as well.  We took the exact same photo of that staircase.

Did you notice that they appear to be building a second one between the Hampton Inn and the Condo Building?  I'm wondering if they're going to be enclosed or if they're going to remain as-is with only hand railing added?  They look kinda neat as-is.

You can see part of it in this photo:

 WOW! All of those are fantastic. Thanks for taking them and posting. I have a question. To the right of the hampton inn is going to more buildings... so how are they going to be built with that road that goes into the garage? Over it? Would that not cause problems during construction (having access) or is this not where i'm looking in the picture?

You're looking from the right direction, yes, indeed.  I was wondering the same thing.  I would imagine that they'll either build the Terrace at River Place over top of this access road (which will no doubt begin with additional parking garage first) OR perhaps there will be another entry to the garage?

One more question... does anyone know what the silver metal posts are that are in the picture of the patio space along Main Street...? At first i thought light post... but ALL of the others anywhere are black- so i sure hope not, especially for the historic West End. So I figure i'd ask!

I haven't inspected them very closely yet; however, I understand they serve a dual purpose:  light post and speaker.
