What is the biggest passenger plane that flies into GSP? 757? How about the biggest cargo plane? They extended the runway so that they could land 747 cargo planes loaded with BMW engines. Are they doing that now?

And, on a completely different subject, what is that "Warn 0%" under my screen name on all my posts? Am I on probation or something? Wha'd I do?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yes, 747s have indeed landed here.  I've also seen C-5s (largest plane in the World, last time I checked) fly in and out on numerous occasions - one day, it did 10 touch-n-go passes in a row!  That was totally awesome! :w00t:

Your "Warn 0%" is a great thing to have.  If you are ever given warnings, you'll see it change to a higher percentage, until it is full and you get the boot.  Every member has this under his/her member name and info, so you're not in trouble at all.

The president has flown in to GSP a few times and Airforce One is a 747 right?

Delta Air uses the jetways, but Comair and ASA don't. US Air is strictly RJ/Commuter plane, so no Jetways used there either. Northwest occasionally boards without jetways. Southwest wants two to three gates, obviously at Concourse A. Also, with family working at Delta, I've also heard that this year the 737 is going bye bye, and because of increased traffic at GSP, we will be getting all MD88 service to ATL, and twice daily 787 service. Can't hardly wait.

I, being in the Air Force Reserves, have flown out of GSP in a C-17 which is about half the size of a C-5 but still by all accounts bigger than most that fly in and out of GSP, and yes Air Force One is a 747. I saw mention of Soutwest, are they eyeballing us again or was that what they wanted when they origianlly approached? Well I'm off to Chucktown I'll check back on Monday. Have a safe weekend.

I fly nearly exclusively with Delta.  At one time in the past the MD-88 stretch was the plane that flew between GSP and Atlanta.  I had heard that the new equiplent was going to be a 737-800 rather than 787 though.  Either way, it's a nice improvement

Any time I fly the regional jets it's between GSP and Orlando and we're always walking down to the tarmac to board.

I mostly fly on Independence and they always use the jet bridges at GSP.  The only time I had to walk outside from the plane to the airport was late at night (after 11:00 PM) and it was mostly because the flight was running a few minutes late and most of the staff had already left.

Yesterdays Count Line News has an article that states that GSP is one of the Airports Jet Blue is looking to expand to and that if chosen flight could start at GSP early 2006.

That's great news about Jet Blue looking at GSP!  The more low-cost airlines at GSP, the better.  I think Independence has a lot to do with why GSP is much more competitive now than it used to be in terms of price.

Didn't someone also state recently that Southwest Airlines is looking at GSP?

I just saw on the Greater Greenville website that the Greenville Downtown airport is South Carolina's busiest general aviation airport and the state's third-busiest airport overall:

http://www.greatergr...dt_business.asp

That is pretty cool, since GSP International is the busiest in the state:

http://www.absolutea...th_Carolina.htm

GSP also boasts the most airlines of any SC airport, as well as roughly 80 arrivals and 80 departures daily.  I hope GSP hits the 2 million passenger mark this year!

I would venture to say Charleston because of the beaches and all the sites it gets a lot of tourism, and also the Air Force base, theres always planes flying in and out of there. For GSP to be busier than Charleston honestly suprised me, pleasantly I might add, theres a lot of cargo planes flying in and out of Charleston which I believe comprises most of its flights.

Columbia may have a lot of traffic but I do believe Charleston has got it beat. Theres always something in the air waiting to land or just took off. Columbia could be 4th.

I was thinking Columbia Metro as the second palce, but I am not sure on that one. There were planes fling over all the time when I lived there.

GSP gets just as much, if not more, cargo planes that Charleston, which has the port for the vast majority of its cargo.

I know thats why GSP is first, most of the cargo in Charleston is military not so much civilian although some civilian 747's like Polar Air, and Evergreen to mention a few use the Air Force base to off-load their cargo. I was just speaking in generalities as far as air traffic goes Chas is right up there in 2nd place, I'm not trying to dethrone GSP because as a citizen of this great region we call The Upstate it's a source of pride that we have 2 of the busiest airports in the state and are one of the fastest growning regions in the country. I just don't see Columbia having as much air traffic as GSP and Chas repsectively. I'm not stating a fact that Columbia is forth, just basing my judgement on personal experience. Sorry for the confusion. GSP is the Greatest in my own personal opinion, and I've been around the world Atl, Chicago, LAX, Sea-Tac, Osaka, DFW, and the list goes on and on and GSP is 2nd to NONE. :D  Keep up the marvelous work. I hope they break 2 million this year and continue on the up and up.

The state's four "busiest" commercial airports are really very close in numbers...and still quite small. In terms of annual passengers in 2004 (the most common definition of "busiest," other than total aircraft movements, the constant battle/debate between Hartsfield and O'Hare), CHS was 1st; GSP was 2nd; MYR was a VERY close 3rd; and Columbia was 4th.

I doubt that there are too many flights into Cola for political reasons. You can drive to Cola in three hours or less from just about anywhere in the state. I do know that a large percentage of Cola's flights are from the UPS airhub at the Cola airport. Other than UPS there really isn't a whole lot to their airport.
