I agree. If the site were cleaned up and put to positive use, Miamians could enjoy this structure again.

The City of Miami claimed Hurricane Andrew damaged the structure and ceased proper maintenance in 1992. A similar fate hit the Miami (Baseball) Stadium, which has even more architectural and historical significance. Hopefully the beautiful scenery of the site, with downtown as a backdrop will save the stadium.

The Transformation of Fort Lauderdale

I happened to run across this video of Spring Break 1985 while researching a particular property in Fort Lauderdale. While Spring Break undoubtedly filled the pockets of many merchants, restaurants and hotels, its absebce is not to be mourned. While I never even visited Fort Lauderdale until 1999, I've heard stories about what it was like during the 70's and 80's. Maybe I'm just getting older, but the absence of beer helmets is a good thing....

I was pleasantly surprised by our lunch yesterday at da Campo Osteria, the new Todd English bistro at Il Lugano, the condo-hotel on the Intracoastal. I was expecting something along the lines of the Olives in Washington- overpriced food served with extra helpings of attitude. Nothing could have been further from the case here. The food was excellent, the service friendly (ok, so it wasn't perfect in every detail- but a good attitude makes up for a lot). and the prices were comparable to what one would pay on Las Olas.

A quick shot of the open kitchen....
I live in Orlando and have driven all three ways, Sawgrass, Homestead, and I-95, to Key West. I-95 is of course the worst for traffic.
I visited this area a few months back. From 75th all the way to Midtown. Drove around a couple of times, got out, took in the sites. VERY nice place indeed. Very impressed with that area!

Just a quick note on a much-heralded restaurant in Oakland Park. I finally went to By Word of Mouth (Oakland Park Blvd. at 12th Street) about a week or so ago. There's no doubt that the fiid is good, I just wonder whether or not it's worth the expenditure. There's no atmosphere whatsoever. The food was good, but I'd almost rather go to Riley McDermott's downtown. Thoughts?
