But today there were letters stuck to almost every trash can on my street, and hardly any trash got picked up.

The Green Up program is a farce. Here's how it "works" ---

If you have a green can full of garbage and no green or blue bins, your trash doesn't get emptied and you get a sticker and a flyer. If the recycling truck comes and takes your stuff and you bring the bin back from the curb to wherever you keep it, your trash doesn't get emptied and you get a sticker and a flyer. If you put out only a blue bin or only a green bin, your trash doesn't get emptied and you get a sticker and a flyer. If you have one blue bin and one green bin and two trash cans with garbage, your trash doesn't get emptied and you get a sticker and a flyer.

The city is now inundated with weeks-old garbage overflowing from big green cans and blowing around the streets, and nobody understands why its not being collected. It's a big green mess.

You stay trashy, Providence!

A few years ago, when he bought the Cranston Street trolley barn, a friend of mine had her letter to the editor of the Providence Journal published in the paper, where she talked about his pattern of knocking down buildings for temporary parking which becomes permanent, and how the trolley barn would fall soon if nothing was done to stop it. Shortly after that, she got a phone call from him at 6:30 A.M. on a Saturday, during which he said that "if she doesn't like it, then she should get the governor to get his ass down here, and move the state police barracks into my building", and hung up. It has been a year since the announcement of a single tenant and nothing is happening.

Well Let's see 110 is becoming a parking lot and the historic facade is a public safety hazard so that will be coming down. I imagine that because the Arcade has been empty for soooooo long that it is deteriorating so will soon become a public hazard and need to be razed a la Fruit and Produce Warehouse. That will make for a mighty fine surface lot. Maybe we should just tear down the Turks Head building while we are at it, why do we need all those silly buildings anyway?
Okay enough with the rant. I am genuinely concerned now that 110 is moving towards becoming part of the asphalt jungle that is downtown Providence. Ganoff rushed to throw everyone out of the Arcade with all these big plans and the new updates to make it a LEED building blah, blah. What is the future of the Arcade?

Trash Bins For Sale

http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=50875&view=findpost&p=1096861

Hello,

Seeing that there is apparently surreal demand and a very limited supply, The Ank Enterprises went down to the Public Works building this AM, and bought up every available recycling bin that the city has, that other normal functioning municipalities offered for free..

The city set the market at a paltry $5, and The Ank thinks they have greatly erred on the value of such, as the government often does err.. Only, this time it was NOT in their favor surprisingly... With trash fines set at $100-$500, The Ank accounting staff felt the value per bin was far too low.. If you are interested in buying them from the city at $5 per bin, that option is no longer available.

Blue and Green bins are available for purchase at www.freemarketbins.com.org. The new, market corrected price is now $25 per bin. Think of the savings you STILL will have, a typical one family house will only need to spend $50 to avoid a certain fine no less than $100! Thats a saving of ONE HALF instantly!!! And not only is the saving instant, but they continue EVERY WEEK! You can save a minimum of $2,600 PER YEAR just by purchasing bins from me. Shipping and handling extra (nothing in life is free). Go Providence!!! GO GREEN PROVIDENCE!!!

I think there technically has to be something in the bin, but Waste Management has gotten lazy and now uses that annoying truck with the robotic arm to dump your trash rather than someone actually going out and hooking the bin to the back of the truck (which resulted in less trash being blown around the street). So no one actually sees in the bin.
