There was a story in today's CBJ about the Lash Group adding employees in Charlotte. It is a healthcare consulting firm, and they plan to add 150 permanent positions and have already hired 350 temp workers. The article is for paid subscribers, so I can't read all of it, however, I think it is good news.

I remeber when that building was the club River City. It was a happening place and along with Doc Murdock's, which was in the building just up College where the interior decor place is now, caused a lot of friction with the historic district neighbors.

It's always exciting when someone strips the skins and add-ons off old buildings like that. Who knew that building had that curved facade like that? really cool to see.

This is one of those little gems in Charlotte that often flies under the radar. Especially on days when the artist studios are open, it's absolutely wonderful going in and talking about the work going on (for example, this guy). Everyone talks on here a lot about the really super-rich neighbors and suburbs....is there anywhere that's just decent enough????? I mean like not the most awesome part of town ever but okay enough that I don't have to worry about my children and where they can get a good education??? San Antonio (about 1 1/2 hours south of Austin) is a big city and much more affordable than Austin.

That is really great news for King's Mountain. That place could use the additional jobs. I'm happy to hear Gaston County making some progress.

dbull75, on 20 November 2009 - 09:29 AM, said:

Here's more info, well not much b/c everyone is still hush-hush, on Project Cardinal from Charlotte Biz Journals
Sounds like some kind of announcement is imminent. 650 jobs would be a nice plus in addition to the nearly $150 cap investment.

This is really awesome. I wonder if this announcement will help fuel the "Energy Hub" status that Charlotte is trying to attain. Also, doesn't Siemens deal alot with trains and rail? I don't think that is what the club is, or what it is trying to be. The crowd is really more of the same crowd as Common Market, the guys from Black Sheep and Niche. The Dj's often play rock music, and a lot of them live in Wilmore and Southend. It is really an interesting mix of people, but definitely not "upscale" or "trendy" (unless that is currently trendy). It really is kinda artsy.

Does anyone think there is a single place that is inspiring? A park? A museum? A school? A street? A statue? A historical place? Or do most people agree that the thing that is most inspiring about Charlotte is "the idea of Charlotte."
I like the answer about the trees. I hadn't considered that - and it's right - that's a very big thing that makes Charlotte seem more comfortable/livable than other cities. It's a good answer.
