Inner Loop - CBD, Downtown, East Bank, Germantown, Gulch, Rutledge

Was happy to take a Sunday drive during the day today. There are so many sites throughout town with construction fencing up, I severely lost count! One that stuck with me, though:  Can someone remind me what the fencing at the southeast corner of Korean Veterans and 1st is for?

A tunnel?!?  :shok:

For the marsupials (the 2-legged type) from the hill, so they wont become roadkill crossin' KVB to the venue.

(just a krak)

Indeed, it would make sense to provide separated grade for pedestrians, if a tunnel bore does happen to be in place, but only if passage can be channeled to and from true "aggregation" sources.  If they really anticipate attendance from Rolling Mill and Rutledge, then I think that they might best consider planning for passage from west of First Ave., as well, somehow.  Not everyone from the rest of the throng is going to be able to ride the train or the Green-/Blue-Circuit bus in to the venue.

I'm not aware of a tunnel, although that might be what is planned.    Now, there already is a greenway connection going in (and nearly complete) that passes under the KVB bridge and connects the existing greenway that runs behind Pinewood Social to the amphitheater park.   You can see it at the upper right in the rendering.

Pardon my lack of clarity at the late hour of my post. NOT a tunnel, but a pathway underneath the bridge! That does not, however, explain the area at 1st & KVB being fenced. The greenway extension is probably 200 yards east of the intersection.

Turning lane. MPW wants more lanes everywhere.

I guess it makes sense to put the new Tennessee State Museum on the more visible corner of Jefferson and Rosa Parks (8th Avenue North), but I always liked the idea of it being along the east side of theBicentennial Mall to help create a smaller version of theNational Mall in Washington DC in the way it is bordered on both sides by various museums.  Will be interesting to see if eventually the State Archives get put along that stretch as well (that was part of the original plan).  Wonder what else could be put there to round out the vision for the Mall?

Also glad to see that Haslam has money in the budget for remodeling of Cordell Hull Building.  I like that art deco era design and would've been upset if demolition were to happen.

Well, this one is now public. Some of us have known about this one for a while. This project is by no means a done deal and is still in the early stages.

I've been parking here for Preds games this season, and they just put up "Permit Only Parking" starting last week.

I wonder what is going to happen with the pie-shaped pieces of land just adjacent to this that border on the roundabout.  Would be cool to see some great statement structures that accent that whole intersection, which will most certainly become one of the busiest in downtown over the next decade.

This white building at 1022 Monroe St, now has a full sized dumpster in the backyard clearing out the interior.  The full-sized dumpster is already full.

Curious!  It was the property next door at 1024 that is supposed to be demo'd, right?

I like the new design vs. the old. Definitely more street activation...and I didn't care too much for the tacky lime green on the old one.

For some reason, the new render reminds me of a smaller version of the Southern Land building in GH, which we have not heard anything about lately.

I'm just wondering if anyone has really looked at the numbers on this. Aside from all the subterfuge, this is a property that someone in the Mayors office described as the most valuable piece of real estate in the south. 6+ acres, multiple metro built parking facilities, not a lease as first presented, $5m upfront? $5m in five years. Am I missing something? Someone please work up a schedule of values on this for us.
