I'm sorry,I just can't see a bank giving this guy 75 million bucks. Unless he partners up with a co-developer who knows what he's doing and has a lengthy track record, this ain't gonna happen. I hope I'm wrong cause I would love to see this built, but I'm just not seeing it.

I agree... I admire his ambition, but jeez. I'm surprised it doesn't have indoor roller coasters, bungee jumping and a helicopter landing pad on top.

^Yeah no kidding. Nashmoney brought up the blue slit in the middle possibly being a waterfall that was talked about in the article, and the more I look at it, the more it looks like that's what it is. If that turns out to be what it is then that's almost laughable. While the idea sounds really cool, could you imagine water gushing down from 23 stories up on a windy day? You can forget about going out on your balcony, this thing would be watering the landscape over at Terrazo and Icon.

I really wish they would restore the lighting that once outlined the crown on good old r2d2 (One Nashville Place).  Sadly, those days are so far removed that I cannot find any online images of the building with the intense green (Tron-like) outline glowing on the skyline!

Been trying to find that out of for at least 5 years. WW even wrote a story about the lacking of Nashville skyline lighting.

Or it might be glitter... or an LED display board that looks like water continually running down the side of the building.  Appropriate for Mr. Kelty.

I actually like the idea of it being an LED display that could change pictures...text...colors.  That would actually be very cool and forward-thinking.  On days when the Titans are playing, it could light up light blue with dark blue GO TITANS.  Christmas time it could be a wreath...or a skinny tree.  Etc.

I miss when the TN tower would write messages with the individual window lights. Although, that's not exactly "energy efficient"

That was when it was privately owned.  All interior lights were left on and blinds were selectively lowered to spell out letters.  When the State bought the building it underwent the first of several renovations.  Included was a change in blind design and in the windows themselves that limited the amount of interior lighting that could be seen from the outside.  And, the interior lighting was placed on timers or motion sensors.  The combination made messaging with the windows much more difficult.  Also, since it was state owned, there was legitimate concern regarding the potential appropriateness of "sponsoring" some events.  Allowing some, but denying others created a can of worms for General Services.  Given all that, a decision was made to not offer the service anymore.

But Aerial's cottage development at 4th Ave N in Salemtown was disapproved by the MHZC at last night's hearing.  The number of units (6 on 2 lots) was approved by the Planning Commission and the Council, but the Historic Zoning Commissioners can revise the actual site plan and obviously review height/massing/materials and such.  No one from Aerial was present to answer questions, either, which potentially could have gotten the project approved with additional conditions.  So the Commissioners were reluctant to go about redrawing someone's proposal from the bench.  They disapproved the application, but Aerial can come back at a future hearing.

The Aerial project on 4th Ave N / Salemtown proposal immediately followed the White Ave / Woodland-in-Waverly proposal and was an interesting juxtaposition.  But the Commissioners had much greater concerns about the height and massing of the 4th Ave N proposal and the applicant was not present to try to assuage those concerns or to discuss his/her willingness/ability to adjust the proposal to meet the conditions for approval.  And so 4th Ave North was disapproved.

A word of advice to the builder/development community:  show up at your hearings.

I noticed demo has gone forward on the two duplexes on 4th.    Aerial may be planning to show up at a future hearing to try to get the 6 unit proposal approved or may propose something else.

It says something about the state of development in city when they are tearing down duplexes because they aren't dense enough.

I didn't know if any of the media would pick up on this project, but it's about to be on channel 2. The residential Group out of Atlanta is about to start on a project next to the Nissan dealership on Vantage way. I had told William at the Post about this six or so months ago but he did not know if it had stalled. There were some permits issued at this site last week and the land was purchased Friday. There is a rendering on their website as well. Very suburban like most of their projects.

William will have the story on Tuesday.
