The only issue I have is the surface lot that is on the SW corner. At least I think it is a surface lot. I would much rather have that lot somewhere else or structured parking.

Agree, but as property vales rise that site will get redeveloped.

According to a dallasnews blog from January, the city of Dallas is carrying $659million in debt for their Omni convention center hotel. So glad Nashville did not go down that road!

$659 million builds a convention center, not a hotel.

That surface lot on the corner has raised comments on here before.  Somebody posted, I recall, that the corner in question was designated as a spot for a future hotel.  I am not sure if that is rumor or fact, just something I think remember reading on this site.

If that's the case, I'm extremely confused as to why they wouldn't have rendered it in that image... Even with a nondescript block signifying unknown future development.

Maybe it's got something to do with the overpass and related to the interstate ROW?

Here's another article about the Dallas Omni.

http://cityhallblog.dallasnews.com/2014/01/dallas-will-own-the-omni-hotel-for-at-least-the-next-two-years-but-it-could-be-longer.html/

With this pull quote from the above linked piece from the Dallas Morning News:

"What began as a simple Dallas City Council committee briefing about the success of the city-owned Omni Hotel and the need for further amenities became an hour-long discussion concerning the potential sale of the hotel. It was also revealed during the meeting Tuesday afternoon that the city is carrying $659 million in debt on the convention center hotel."

Must be a REALLY NICE hotel!!!

^ Nashville native, Dallas resident here

Nashville's Omni may not be the architectural marvel some (or skyscraper John) wanted, but Nashville got a fantastic deal on our Omni compared to Dallas'. The two are shockingly similar with the big difference being that the City of Dallas had to get into the hotel business to get the one here done!

The entire hotel being a screen is a cool feature for selling potential tenants (seeing a 23 story logo of your association or company is pretty cool) and it's located on top of the DART light rail station. Nashville Omni's integration with CMHoF and better city integration are nice selling points for it.

Pie Town...considering it looks like a slice of pizza from google maps, I like it. Fun name!

This area will likely see some incredible development in the years to come...considering it's between SoBro and the Gulch, and near Rutledge Hill and Rolling Mill Hill.

The more connectivity we have for all of these areas, the more dynamic our downtown will end up. The Division St Connector will definitely help. Let's improve the street alignment in certain areas to allow for greater flow (Lea Ave as well as Lindsley connecting to Lafayette come to mind- both in the Plan for Sobro) with some nice streetscaping...and we could end up in a decade having one amazingly vibrant downtown energy...!

Cheers to Nashville

Great!     They're going to need to add more seating in the market house.  I go there for lunch about every other week (for my Swagruha curry fix) and it's always packed.    Add a Jeni's and forget it.

btw, I'm fascinated by the reception Jeni's has received in 12 South.    Always a line outside.    Last night it was half a block long!

I think that adding Jeni's in 12South has greatly eased the pressure on the Walden location in East Nashville.  There are still lines in the Walden location, but not like there used to be.  Adding another one in the Farmer's Market will likely take care of the North Capital area and continue to spread out that demand.  I like Jeni's, but I really have a hard time waiting in line for a half an hour or longer to get ice cream.   So thinning out the lines may actually increase my patronage.
