Here are some views of Buffalo New York that I have come accross on the web over the years. Many people have a preconceived notion that Buffalo is a worthless dump. It has had its problems over the past 40 years but give it a chance and you might be surprised at what it has to offer.

Most of the Lake Erie shore has kind of a bad rep. The closest I've been to Buffalo is Philadelphia, so I just get my impressions from other people and from movies, namely Buffalo '66, which I really like, but it doesn't show Buffalo in a very good light.

These are nice pics, and I'm always surprised how large Buffalo is. I guess all of the upstate cities are just overshadowed so much by NYC.

Great pictures. I have been to Buffalo on many occasions and I have always found some very positive things there. Just like any place, it's got it's fair share of lumps. However, it's a hard working city with a great history and some fantastic architecture. The economy is a little tough, though.

I know this plays right into a typical Buffalo cliche and forgive me if I offend anyone, but my favorite pictures of Buffalo are when it's burried in snow. I've only witnessed one true lake effect snowstorm in Buffalo. It knocked my socks off. It didn't phase anyone else.

I agree, even though the city is sorda on the decline there is VERY beautiful and rich architecture. When I visited last year the lack of modern skyscrapers stood out. It reminds me of a Detroit almost. The old building are very beautiful though. It shows the prominance of the past in Buffalo. I also got very interested in Buffalo after my trip, its such a cool city. I dug up stuff on the Pan American Exposition, overshadowed by President McKinley, and the Electric tower was amazing. Why was this awsome building torn down? I heard the Government didnt want to support it? If that is so its very sad.

BTW- Upstate New York is much better than the megalopolis southeast of them. I also LOVE the wings!

Why was this awsome building torn down? I heard the Government didnt want to support it? If that is so its very sad.

All the buildings of the Pan American Expo in Buffalo were torn down except for one. They were never meant to be permanent. All of them were made of plaster except for the New York Building whcih was marble. That building still stands and is used as the Buffalo Historical Museum. The Albright Art Gallery (now Albright Knox) was also in existance at the entry to the Expo but was nort part of the event.

I must say that these pictures show Buffalo in a much better light.

The last I was in upstate New York was in the 90's when I was visiting some of my favorite relatives in Rochester. My mother is from there. We visited Niagra Falls as well. Driving to Cleveland to visit other relatives, I remember taking I-90. Glacing over at Buffalo in the distance made me think it was a depressed area. It was so brown.

Seeing these pictures however has changed my mind. The next time I am visiting Rochester, which will probably be August, I will stop by and soak in the richness that is Buffalo.

To be fair there are some true down at the heals hoods in Buff. Some of them are very rough. Many of these neighborhoods have great potentials. But the city is old with a poor economy and the metro is dominated by the suburbs and their anti city mentality. Even with all its problems buffal is filled with increadible neighborhoods with spectacular architecture.

If you vist Ol'e Buff you have to look a little harder to find the jewel. It is not all shinny like Boston or SanFran but with a little more work you will be greatly rewarded.
