New Orleans Development Thread

With all of the residential tower development going on in the New Orleans area, I figured it was about time for the city to have it's own development thread.

I'm going to start working on it right now, and should have quite a bit of developments in here by this evening.

It's actually pretty far away from the central part of The Quarter. You have to go a block down, and then two blocks over across Canal Street, which is like a city block in itself, before you get to the French Quarter.

There is a height limit of 88 feet for buildings in downtown very near The Quarter, and this has been a major obstacle for a recently proposed 320 foot condo tower right next to The Quarter.

Yeah I guess I've gotten too used to Fayetteville's small blocks, especially in the areas I've been taking pics in. The older part of town has some pretty small blocks.

Certain older areas of New Orleans are like this, but as you get into the more modern parts of town the blocks become much bigger.

BTW, I've been working on a New Orleans development map for a couple of weeks now, but I have no idea how to post it on UP. My goal is to make a development map for the entire New Orleans metro area, and then move over to Baton Rouge.

Skirby was making one for Little Rock over in the Arkansas forum too. But he couldn't find a way to post it to UP. He asked but no one else knew either and we suggested he asked Neo. I haven't heard anymore since then.

Not bad, though I too think the name is over the top. The building looks like So. Florida instead of New Orleans. Of course, lots of this stuff will be put up on the Coast soon too. I wish there were a way to make these towers more representative of their regions.

Yea, it seems like the only way to make a new tower represent the New Orleans area is to put the fake historic architecture on it, which I cant stand. Though most of the towers along the lakefront in New Orleans alreadly look south Florida like.

That rendering makes it look kind of isolated, like it's in the middle of nowhere as opposed to in a city.

Yea I noticed this as well. The tower is located in the Lake Marina neighborhood on the Lake Ponchartrain lakefront, where there are around seven towers between 20-30 storeys proposed, and already quite a few high rise condos.

So, it'll have some to make it look a little less lonely then? That's good to hear.
