Welcome to Forest Park the urban forest of the Midwest.

Forest Park, officially opened to the public on June 24, 1876, is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. At 1,370 acres it is approximately 500 acres larger than Central Park in New York. It was the site of the 1904 Worlds Fair.

I'd love to have a park like this around here! I think everyone would want something like this close to them!

Yeah, there are no large urban parks around here. It's the suburbs, so every square inch of land has been taken up for housing. And Detroit has parks, but certainly not parks that large.

Wow, I didn't realize Forest Park was so expansive. Really nice.

Allan - what is the biggest urban park in Detroit?

I'm pretty sure it's Belle Isle. Not sure how large it is though.

When living in St. Louis, art hill was my favorite place to go and meditate. Forest park is truely the crown jewel of st. louis.

Art Hill is the is the 7th picture from the top of brick cities posting.

There is a better forum for St. Louis urban discussion. This forum is primarily for cities in the South. And the search engine here can't search on "St. Louis", so not too useful.

Which forum are you talking about?

Yes, Forest Park is great...It is amazing to be able to walk into the Art Museum or Zoo and not have to pay. I just strolled through the Zoo for about an hour last weekend actually.

The more "foresty" parts are not really pictured, but there are trails and paths through the woods.

When I lived in St. Louis for a brief period, my office was a block away. Forest Park is truly impressive, and huge.
