Or you could use a Lyft.  Much better than Uber.

i have asked every single one that I have used since december and every driver I have had here in Nashville does both Uber and Lyft. so I dont know how one is better. though an overwhelming majority of them said Lyft riders are better than Uber riders.

Biggest difference I've seen is the ability to tip in-app in Lyft.

Other than that, Lyft seems to be a little more informal, whereas Uber tends to get more professional drivers, or people who do it full-time.

I think the greenway situation is downright ridiculous. The very nature of a greenway I liken to that of a public park--i.e. that it has free access to all that wish to use it. Running into a silly fence blocking the entire thing with no clear indication of how to go around is absolutely mind-boggling.

Hopefully, the gates will seldom, if ever, be closed and this won't ever be an issue. Still, I'm a little nervous.

That's another thing, though, because as I noted a while back, leaving the gates open all the time presents a security issue for the ballpark. So it becomes an issue of having a functional greenway versus people potentially running around the ballpark at all hours, and I'm guessing the people in charge of the gates are more concerned with the latter than the former.

The site renderings seemed to show a separate path for the greenway, so maybe this will be addressed later on when the rest of the site is finished, but the way the walkway is laid out now implies that's all we're gonna get.

I'm a regular user of the greenway and am gonna be pissed if it is closed off.

btw, they were installing the LED panels on the scoreboard yesterday.

It'll be a piss-poor (typically) planning and design, if that does happen.  This is one kind of matter that always needs to have been discussed with the townspeople, just as with most any other impactful and stake-holding project.  Again that same ol' "engagement" refrain.

I'm not to say that this hasn't occurred for the ballpark itself, but then it probably would not have surprised most, if it has not been discussed in planning, and then it would be simply another "editorial" matter of forging a project straight through to execution.

This was also a concern of my from the beginning. Initially, the developers/planners said the greenway would remain open during games.  Obviously, this has changed, and they need to address how greenway patrons will navigate the area during games. Each event will be a clusterf* regardless. I'm not complaining, though. Another thing that needs attention is the great danger pedestrians face when trying to cross Jefferson anywhere between 3rd and 7th. The crosswalks are clearly marked that peds have priority when waiting to cross, but drivers speed through regardless. I'm the guy that always stops (and receives honks and glares from annoyed drivers) when someone is waiting to cross.

I think the greenway issue will eventually work itself out. There looks to be plenty of room behind the currently finished path within the ballpark grounds for the additional plaza and walkways presented in the conceptual renderings:

The gates to the ballpark will likely be closed at all times except during games (when there would be ticket agents at the entrances), so unless they're just going to have a permanent fence blocking the greenway it would be reasonable to expect that the actual greenway path behind the stadium is simply incomplete at this time.

Could the fence just be up temporary during the construction? Maybe they had lots of traffic on the site and wanted to minimize pedestrians using it before the park is open?

I am just trying to stay positive on this part, because the greenway opening to the park was one of the features I liked the most when I first saw some renderings.

Again, another Metro-created disparity.  That Jefferson is a transportation curse, if there ever were one, since it's the only thoroughfare and access in that entire stretch north of Jas. Rob Pkwy, without getting off the surface roads, and the only E-W mainway from West Nashville (via Walter Davis - Ed Temple) and the northwest (without going through Bordeaux and around to east N).  The widening of Jefferson into a boulevard-style parkway between 2nd/3rd and 8th only has encouraged drivers to speed, in the absence of consistence speed-mitigation enforcement (at ALL times, not just SOMEtimes).

Not to mention the lack of adequate, continuous procession from upper- to lower Jefferson, especially at 10th and at 8th, along the narrow portion, whereas mad drivers, irritated from poor traffic management and bottlenecks, "scratch off" on the speedway and head straight for the bridge.  Metro is going to be forced to address that issue before some heads roll (in one sense or another).

It seems rather odd that a planned widening of Jefferson at least to Fisk has not been in the offing for some time now.  It is bumper to bumper every afternoon, starting pretty early each weekday. Opens up from 8th Avenue at least to the river. While on this topic about east-west connectivity... it is long overdue for the state to rebuild the interchange of I-24 and Ellington to something more seamless.  Of course, that would necessitate the widening of Ellington.  I haven't seen any mention of any of those corridors.

You are absolutely RIGHT-right!!

You can be blind as a bat and see that the city seems to ignore even the discussion of those RED-hot  issues, as clearly they are both related to Metro and the State in terms of a shared interest and a concern.  Even if it's not currently budgeted, it needs to be addressed and hashed out as part of a comprehensive surface transportation initiative.  I'm surely glad that someone else sees this as well as I, with those two main sources of constant irritation..

The ballpark has achieved Silver Leed certification, per the mayors office.

It's good to have achieved that endorsement in standards.  That rating still however falls in the 26-50 percentile of the certification scale, and does not necessarily address mobility matters on property adjacent to or not within the direct limits "proper".  While the ballpark is generally a welcome asset, especially in consideration of the fact that it has been overwhelmingly perceived as being long overdue, compared to what other Tenn. cities have done during the past 20-something years, and the fact that the location has immense historical significance, it still may not address civic matters that do not directly relate to its function, but rather to its presence.

Just sayin'...

I was just looking at an ariel photo of the ball park from today on NC5 and was wondering if someone could tell me what is being built across the street from the main entrance to the right, and if there is anything planned across the street from the main entrance to the left? Those old garage looking buildings kind of ruin the look in my opinion.

My guess is that you're speaking of the strip between Jackson St (the main entrance portal) and Jefferson, say, from 3rd Ave. on the left to just past 5th on the right (where the BiCent mall begins).  I believe that one semi-quonset shaped garage-looking building (with the overhead doors), at 4th and Jackson, is on the market now (although it could already have been sold.  Next door at 3rd and Jackson is Concept Technology, an outsourced IT service.  I'd say that within 5 years or less, you're going to see an infusion of change, including that 2 or 3 blocks, so fast that you might think someone practiced sleight of hand.

Especially now since the State budget finally just approved funding for a state museum on the east flank of the state mall, that alone can induce more speculation that will snatch the rug out from under those remaining warmed-over flats that remain close to the ball park.  I just hope that foreseeable plans include preserving that well-formed, abandoned smokestack on the south side of the bridge (looks as if it might have been an old incinerator for burning hog guts at one time).

On the north side of the park the Caralon apartments are being built. On the south side of the park is the new parking garage.

I think the State will end up putting the Library and Archives will end up fronting Jefferson on the east of the Capitol mall and the State Museum will be on the corner of Rosa Parks and Jefferson.

The building that is on 5th will probably stay as the state will not have to relocate it.

Thanks for the info. I knew about the parking garage but wasn't sure about what was going on in front of the stadium. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm sure with the new state museum coming that it'll be a catalyst for more development.
