I know very little about that. It was briefly mentioned in a post somewhere, some years ago and included a rendering. I think it was to be some sort of school or something. But it is definitely on that corner.

It doesn't include the first proposal for this lot after demolition of the Cain-Sloan Store which, ironically, was to be an eight story parking garage. It was to have a brick facade, as I recall, and a clock tower on the 5th and Church corner. I wish I had kept the rendering.

The good news is that I think I have a copy of that rendering from the newspaper. The bad news is that it's buried in a box somewhere in my house along with the original City Center I & II brochure.

Now, if only we could get all 6 of those renderings built... in different locations, of course.

Here she is!! The new rendering for 505...and hopefully the last. Not an official rendering, but nonetheless something. Can't really determine much with the one angle and black white image. I would like to see a detailed color render before I give my opinion. However, from what I can see so far from the new render, I still like Siggy and the office/condo tower. Hopefully he adds something to the top. This is supposed to be his signature project.

Interesting points from the article:

 

• Tony Giarratana's latest public version of Tennessee's tallest skyscraper projects a slender building with about 550 apartments. The top stories, floors 51 through 60, are exclusively for condos.
• For that yet-to-be-built downtown tower, the Nashville developer has leased 400 of the 900 parking spaces to be contained in an adjacent parking garage being developed by the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency
• In an email, Giarratana said the tower's final design should be cemented by mid-December. He declined to answer questions about financing and the project's timeline.

Yes, this is the rendering I saw several weeks ago.  Although, the full color makes it look better, it is nothing surprising.  It is similar in color to Pinnacle, if memory serves.  I like how it properly addresses the street and has ground level retail.

The location of the tower is what I had suspected. It will loom large on Church with that orientation.  Talk about a wall on the street!!!!

Love it, I like how it is curved in front but still has proper corners. now it just needs a proper hat!

God I hope the color version makes it look better.  Not very impressive at all compared to the other design(s).

Seems like each iteration of this one was a little bit less "inspired" than the last... I still like it, but prefer what it could have been. 

 

And, heck, anything is better than the parking lot.

Cost may be an issue, but non the less will be imposing on the street. By the shape, yes it's less expensive,  and they will fly form this up rather quickly. They could do a floor a week and top this out in little over a year.

 

Many large cities are using designs which allow quick construction to get the building leased faster to get that cash flow back into the bank's hands. The Bridgestone tower will fly up as well..

 

Tall buildings like anything else now are utilitarian. They leave the design elements to the interior, and to the person in each individual unit.

 

Mathematically if he broke ground in January 2015, this would be open in January-May 2017. 2-2/1/2 years. Quick for a 60+ story tower.

It is interesting for sure. Perhaps the numbers work out long term for tax revenue, but this seems to be a whole new level of subsidy. This is basically a public/private partnership.

I mean, I'm glad too see this property finally develop, but part of me really dislikes the way things get done these days.

I do like the way it addresses Church St... The hanging canopies are a nice touch. Plus, with the height it'll be fun to walk by and watch the pedestrians' heads roll back.

Yes...if it had some kind of distinctive crown, that would go a long ways towards making the design a bit more palatable.

I "like" it. I do agree with others that this is probably my least favorite of the previous renderings. However, that does not mean I think this is bad. It would look really good in the skyline, I just think the design is very uninspired. The other designs seemed to have personality, this is just a very tall glass tower. Maybe they could add some sort of design element at the top.
