Nashville Bits and Pieces

I don't know if it's true, but I've heard they make a ton more money off of the mall partnership than they ever made off of the park.

That wouldn't surprise me. Aren't mid-size theme parks known for being difficult to turn a serious profit on? I'd imagine the rights from the Bass Pro alone come close to the profits made off the park in a year.

Muckraking at it's finest (slimiest?).  The benefits of TIFs are debatable, but this is just more sloppy, soundbite "journalism."  How much did the other property in the zone increase during the period?  How much additional revenue was generated by the investments?  Sigh.

Agreed. Local news programs are designed to "incite" rather than persuade in their arguments and reporting.

Ugh, yep, that's exactly what it is. I really dislike local news 'investigative' journalism. It rarely actually goes after items that are of consequence, and when it does (arguably raising discussion of TIF could be somethign of consequence), it does it in a sloppy, ranting, one-side-of-the-issue style that doesn't do anything useful.

I think it's fair to argue that TIFs have gotten a bit out of control, but how do you stop them? At this point, landowners, lenders, etc. are all presuming there will be TIF assistance for every major project and they inflate the price accordingly.

It seems like to suddenly eliminate TIFs from the picture, or to at least scale them back dramatically, would cause a major crash in our development market.

With the boom Nashville is experiencing right now, I think it would be fair to start gradually scaling back TIFs within the next year or two, coupled with across-the-board tax decreases to compensate.

Right on. And with substantial new density in the intown neighborhoods, residents who call these places home should pressure their councilmembers for property tax rate decreases.

Our resident professional photographer Lexy (Michael Davis)  took some amazing photos of the city from 1600 feet up today. They are on Facebook. Most on here I think have seen them from anyone of us who is on Facebook like myself, Lexy, Kevin, Shelby, Todd, Bruce, and many others. If you have not seen them, check them out!

Nice. Got my email, too!

I work with a girl whose sister works for Google in SF and gave her one of these shirts. She's been wearing it around the office on occasion and it'll be fun to see her surprise when I show up in one as well.

Give it a shot anyway... Worst thing that can happen is that you don't get one. Surely someone has sent mail to Brentwood before and put the city as "Nashville". I have a feeling the post office realizes this and will adjust accordingly using the zip code, etc.
