I have been watching this block reappear as the neighborhood around it also comes into full bloom. Anthony Williams may not have been liked by some in Washington, but it's uncontestable that he was able to get action in the renovation of the oldest quarter of downtown. This sort of development has been great for the renaissance of the area around Gallery Place.

As long as the surrounding properties are not turned into surface parking lots, I can see in the near future that there will be some development there. But these things take time, and being patient is probably the order of the day. If the Nats have a pretty good season I would imagine that redevelopment would happen sooner rather than later, regardless of the market. I know people say that the stadium is expensive to visit, but having been to a lot of other stadiums, I can tell you that this one isn't as bad as others. Just try getting in and out of Fenway cheap. My $12 seats at Nats are some of the best seats i've ever been in.

I really don't have a problem with the idea of another high-rise being built over the Bethesda Metro entrance. One more talll tower won't hurt downtown Bethesda. They may well have to adddress parking issues and so forth, but the idea of density there is a pretty good one.

Bethesda looking for development

They are looking to build new development in Lot 31 The only problem is they are taking away 250 parking spots to redevelop the land and add 800 spots. Seems like a bad use of money. Here are some of the questions that they posed:

*What are the public benefits to be derived, given the large public cost?
*Given its location within a block of a new Metro entrance and the Purple Line terminus, is more parking being provided than is necessary or desirable?
*Given that no added road capacity is being provided, how will the local streets operate with the traffic generated by the additional development?
