Further, the Republican has a nominee that is hated by the evangelicals nearly as much as the Clintons are. Not only have we seen evangelical support for the GOP plummet, but there are signs that a significant number of them are at least giving the Democrats a good look.
Until you discover everyone else got tired of not being able to identify their black luggage and decided to get a green suitcase that woudl stick out.

I was down at Walt Disney World several years ago, and their parking lots are huge. And since everyone has a rental car, many of them look alike. One day I found myself parked in the red grand am section of the lot, so I had this brilliant idea I had seen someone else do - the next day I tied one of their colorful plastic bags around the door handle so I could identify which car was mine.

Quite a let down when I walked out and discovered all these cars with plastic bags tied around their door handles, antennas, etc. So it wasn't much of a trick after all!

Was going to college truly worth every penny?

http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=45101&view=findpost&p=976001

http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=45101&view=findpost&p=976001

I feel that college for me was worth it. I went to the state college, but lived on campus (UConn), so my tuition wasn't much compared to most private schools. I work in IT, my degree is in Ecology and Evolutionary Bio. I was told by several professors that for an undergrad in the sciences, it doesn't matter as much where you go for undergrad as it does for grad school, and even that varies person to person.

While I am not using my degree in my career, I may in the future. I am toying with the idea of going back for a masters in education and becoming a science teacher, though I love my current career path. Simply having the degree also opens up other doors, such as not having to get a bachelors if i choose to continue into management (where an MBA might come in handy).

Neo, I would suggest, if you plan on going into management, that you definitely do get a degree, maybe take some online classes to get a bachelors in business. that way if you find yourself in need of an MBA, you'll be that much more ready to go for it. Many companies are now requiring MBA's for management (though I personally feel the value of the MBA isn't very high, which is why I'm going for education instead of MBA).

Anyway, college is about a whole lot more than just the classes, though the education aspect of it should be about 75% of college for you. If it's not, then you're wasting your money and can do the rest of it some other way. It's about networking and developing relationships as well. The partying, in my opinion, is not part of the learning process. I work in a college and the students here are living in a bubble (walking down the street alone at night with their white ipod headphones hanging out in a part of the city that does have some crime). College does not necessarily prepare you for the real world.

On Bush's comments... didn't see nor hear them, but is anyone really surprised with what comes out of his mouth anymore? I'm not.

WRT to gay rights, Obama has already said he supports "civil unions," not gay marriage. There is no way in hell he is going to let his campaign be painted into to a corner by the right-wingers on gay rights--no way. It's easier for me not being gay myself, but I agree with Charlotte native, this is 100% a social wedge issue that would drive a stake through the Democrats chances this fall. From the limited amount I know in the subject (correct me if I'm wrong), I believe that civil unions grant nearly all the legal rights of married couples, but without the "marriage" tag that so many hold dear and seek to protect at all costs. Who cares what it's called? Only the most extreme on the left would insist on that, while forgetting that the pusuit of such a cause is politically DOA. Rights under the law are what people want and what they deserve... no need to drive the GOP into a frenzy over semantics.

Democrats need to keep their eyes on the prize this summer/fall.... the economy, Iraq, and healthcare are the winning progressive issues. There is no doubt in my mind that the majority of the public believes that the GOP is not in step on the big issues of the day, and so the Dems simply must remain focused on those issues, as the GOP and 529s try to 'swift boat' Obama with racial smears. If the Democrats frame the election around those three issues, they will win for sure.

ABC had a great report on health care. it basically put the blame 50% on the system and 50% on the people. most people don't care to learn and just go to whatever doctor is listed in the book for their insurance company. most doctors don't even know their own charges. if people paid more attention to health care and only went to a doctor when absolutely necessary, we wouldn't be in this mess. if people shopped around for the cheapest doctor, we wouldn't be in this mess. there's a lot that goes into it, a lot more than you think. it's a very complicated subject and simply socializing it is not the answer. there are plenty of people from canada coming to the US to see doctors because they can't easily get appointments or don't have the same quality of care. in order to fix the system, we need to get people thinking more about their health care rather than blindly leaving it up to insurance companies and doctors. too many believe that instant care should be the norm... and they go to the ER because they have a cold. that shouldn't be happening. i forget which company, i think it's whole foods or starbucks, has a health savings program rather than insurance. it forces the individual to become more involved with their own health care and it works for them.

i drive a whole lot less. when i do have to drive distances, i do 60-65, cruise control keeps me there. it takes a little longer to get places, but my mileage increases a whole lot when i do that. i can break 30 mpg when keeping my speed set like that. i also shop at a lower cost grocery store for most of my groceries now (at least those that they carry) and buy stuff more in bulk from them (which still saves me a ton of money). since shopping there, my weekly grocery bill has been cut in half.

Officer that wrote a bit too many stop sign tickets?

A Detroit news station ran a story on Warren, Mi police Officer David Kanapsky who many motorists claim was writing unfair tickets, most of them stemming over stop sign violations. Some claim, they definitely did stop, swearing under oath in court, that they did not violate. So what's the problem? Well it seems the more tickets this officer writes, the more overtime pay he gets for showing up in court. It seems kind of shady to me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JNZD-V4c-I

A 20/20 special will air on this also, showing several police officers violating the law themselves

I've been down the stretch they've shown several times in the video. Residents complained about the violations and the city removed several stop signs to avoid the issue altogether.

I'll definitely agree with the fact that people have run stop signs along the service drive. I almost ran the (now removed) stop sign at the spot shown in the video. Slammed on the breaks, but still ended up crawling past it. Of course, no one was there to pull me over. A yield sign made much more sense.

Bush got it wrong anyway when attempting to compare Obama's willingness to talk to the Iranians to Nazi appeasement.

This was in obvious reference to the then British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain who went to Europe and made a peace treaty with Hitler to avoid war. Chamberlain is not faulted for talking to Hitler but for rather for appeasing the Nazi's by agreeing to give them 1/2 of Czechoslovakia in return for a promise for peace. To my knowledge nobody in any campaign has said anything about signing a treaty with Iran let alone any treaty that might do anything like this.

As I said earlier, Bush is clueless about history as is his supporters it seems. He spoke at the Israeli Knesset (their congress) today and compared Obama's willingness to open diplomatic discussions with Iran as being equivalent to appeasement of the Nazi's during the period leading up to WWII. Aside from the complete inaccuracy of a statement, he dredged up this subject during Israel's 60th anniversary of independence. It was an amazing piece of bad taste.

So in one speech he compared the Iranians to the Nazi's, dampened the Israeli Independence celebrations, and did nothing but increase tensions in an area that does not need more war. Never mind that Bush claimed the high road in saying he would not even get involved in the Presidential campaign. It's clear to me that Bush doesn't have the academic background to even know what happened during WWII, so I wonder about the motives of the people yanking his chain.

Bush has zero room to compare Obama, Iran, or anyone else to Nazis and their appeasers. I wonder if this uneducated idiot has any idea that his own family got rich by (and was prosecuted for) building the Nazi industrial machine.

While I have no doubt that Obama or any other candidate will maintain our alliance with Israel, I do think that Obama would step away from our one-sided stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Both sides of the conflict have legitimate gripes, and both have committed atrocities against the other. By siding entirely with Israel and writing off the Palestinians as little more than a terrorist organization, the US has likely prolonged the conflict by decades. we need to pressure our allies in Israel to find a workable compromise solution.

The city itself has over 150,000 people, but the Metro Area is 420,000, so 45,000 college kids is a pretty good number. If you were to add the college kids into the city population it would be over 190,000. Missouri State University is in downtown, Drury, Evangel, and OTC are in Midtown. Here's a list:

Missouri State University- 22,407
Ozarks Technical Community College- 10,532
Drury University- 5,782
Evangel University- 2,071
Assemblies of God Theological Seminary- 672
Baptist Bible College- 627
Central Bible College- 583

...and then lots of other smaller colleges with a 100 or more students.

I wouldn't say that Springfield is a college town. PSU looked pretty vanilla last year and lost their defensive leader in Dan O'Conner. It just looks like OSU as a clear leader in the conference with several teams vying for the second spot, be that PSU, ILL, WISCY or maybe even a resurgent Iowa?

It's kind of sad b/c the whole nation will once again tell me and my fellow Buckeye fans how we suck b/c we don't play anyone and our conference is horrible and blah blah blah. All that is garbage imo, but anyways, there really isn't anyone that will contend w/ OSU in the Big 10, and we should go unbeaten in conference play. PSU will be a tough team, but they come to the Shoe, where they never play well. In fact, since 1993, their hasn't been one game where they broke into double figures in scoring. Illinois and Wisconsin will provide decent tests, as they will be road night games, but neither team has the same speed, and Illinois lost Mendenhaul and Lehman, their good LB, so they won't be as good as last year, plus, OSU will be out for revenge in that game. Tressel since coming to OSU has not lost to the same team in back to back years. No, our whole season will come down to September 13th, in the best out of conference intersectional matchup of the season, when they go out and play USC. If the Buckeyes pull off a victory over probably once again, the preseason #1 team in the country, then we can get some respect back, and they could have a chance to win the National Title. Lose that game though, and the whole country will disrespect Ohio State even more. That is a make our break game for my school.
As for Pryor, he's the same size as Vince Young, throws better than VY, but may not be quite as elusive on the run. I would imagine OSU will design some packages for him this year like Florida did for Tebow as a Frosh, and he will see some Playing time, and get his feet wet, to take over in 2009, after Todd Boeckman has graduated.

Absolutely. Normally I would drive 70-100 mph on the interstates and freeways, and now I don't exceed 68. I use Cruise Control where I can in order to make this happen. I also don't buy beer and other tasty alcoholic beverages as often. Oh yeah, lets not forget the biggest godsend of them all: the McDonald's Dollar Menu. Seriously! There is a McD's less than 2 miles from my office and I can take it back to my office and eat for under $2.17 as opposed to the $14/day lunches that I once would eat. I would even walk there if not for the fact that I work in an extremely dangerous neighborhood.

Also we've considered ditching the landline phone and using our cell phones as our "home" phones. But no matter if they feature full nudal frontity, those dang trade schools will never get me to watch their sorry commercials.

I try not to eat breakfast from fast food joints, but instead try to eat something from home before I leave for work, like cereal or a pastry thing. If you guys like whole wheat cereals with fruits and nuts, you would probably be interested in LiveActive. Not only does it taste good, but it also keeps your digestive system on track. Cool huh?

Indeed. I think Bush's next stop is to go see the dictator (known as the king) of Saudi Arabia where he will go to kiss his ass. This is what America has been reduced to, begging despots for cheap oil. I wonder if Bush will do some dance there too. It will be interesting to see how much McCain will be forced to distance himself from Bush now, yet try to keep support of the few who think Bush is still doing a good job.

Meanwhile it appears the GOP is clearly rattled by their loss in Mississippi on Tuesday. I am not sure why they are surprised. They got routed in 2006 yet have stubbornly refused to change their direction. Now the time for a price to be paid for that is coming up quickly.

Meanwhile, in his effort's to show what a great nation we are, President Bush became the first sitting president, or any president, to criticize a presidential candidate while on foreign soil.

It will be interesting to see McCain's response when asked about this.
