I love the food court at Phipps Plaza. I like that it is on the top floor and the selection is small but decent, Moes, Johnny Rockets, Sbarro, and a few others. The big window gives it nice natural lighting.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

Good thread...

About Football:
Does CSU have the population to support it? Does it even have dorms for the students? I would think that they wouldn't even have to build a stadium as they could use the field that the Tuskegee-Morehouse game is played on (I'm a Tuskegee Grad).

About Advertisement:
Columbus lacks advertising for the bigger acts it gets. I have seen Ron White, Rascall Flatts, Jerry Seinfeld, 8Ball and MJG all play in one of the venue at one point or another over the past 6 or so years, but outside of Columbus I don't see anything.

I wouldn't have known Columbus even existed if not for my college girlfriend (now wife), who introduced me to it. And I went to Tuskegee and didn't bother going to the Tuskegee-Morehouse games b/c I couldn't understand why it wasn't played in a bigger venue. Looking back I regret that. Advertising of what is there is needed especially in Lee County, AL, Macon County, AL, and Montgomery County, AL. IMO I have seen Columbus get bigger musical and comedy acts than Montgomery has gotten recently.

Also:
What is up with the Bradley Theater and the Rialto. I read that the Rialto is being rennovated, and I know that the Bradley was rennovated recently, but I can't find information on who owns it, who books it, what the plans are for it. The Bradley doesn't even have a website.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

Amazingly, the Planning department recommended against it. Luckily, the planning commission recommended for it. What's more amazing, is the Councilors representing South Columbus seem to be opposing it. It's astonishing that especially Mimi Woodson who is always complaining that no new stores are locating to South Columbus. They're not locating because there's not enough market. You need developments like this one to generate a market. Back to the Columbus Planning Department. Good planning is recognized for a mixture of uses. You don't put ALL houses in this area, ALL apartments in this area and ALL jobs in this area. That's what creates sprawl and forces longer and longer commutes. Their future land use map is more like a current land use map. There's no imagination or vision of what a future might look like. For that reason, it's a shame that the Council and planners put so much emphasis on the map.

Not to mention that no one on the Council seems to have gotten the memo that there has been a Housing Bust. It's very hard for people to get easy loans now. So more people are seeking apartment living. Many people are more suited to apartment living. Many people, especially older people can't maintain a single-family home. Some one should educate the planning staff and Council on demographics associated with apartment dwellers. They often do live in their units for as long or longer than single-family units and have median incomes higher than their single-family neighbors.

These get approved?

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

Milledgeville, Georgia

http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=51284&view=findpost&p=1108170

http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=51284&view=findpost&p=1108170

I haven't noticed anything about my hometown, Milledgeville, on this site yet (other than being mentioned as one of the towns along the Fall Line Freeway), so I thought I'd type up a little bit about it.

Milledgeville was the capitol of Georgia through most of the 1800s, including during the Civil War, and was one of Sherman's HQs during his march. Now, it's home to three institutions of higher learning: Georgia College & State University, Georgia Military College, and Central Georgia Technical College. It also has a downtown district that is growing, although the economy has slowed it down somewhat. Whatever growth downtown has been cancelled out by the many job losses the town has suffered. The Rheem air conditioner plant and the Shaw carpet factory have both closed. Several state prisons have closed as well, including the Bill Ireland Youth Development Center, and Central State Hospital has also suffered many job losses. Once the largest mental health institution in the state, CSH now seems to be on the road to closure. Soon, the last of the most historic buildings (the Powell Bldg) on its original "pecan grove" campus will be closed, leaving all operations in the newer buildings farther away. CSH has suffered financially for a long time, not even being able to afford demolition of the older, abandoned buildings. This may end up to be a good thing, however, as GC&SU has recently said they would like to one day open a rural health institution of some sort in the Powell Building, which may expand into the other historic "pecan grove" buildings.

Because of its heavy reliance on state jobs, Milledgeville has suffered more than most other communities in Georgia. Yet it appears that Kroger is planning to build a new store by the end of the year, halfway between Milledgeville and Lake Sinclair (where Baldwin County's richer citizens live). Neither one of the town's newspapers have addressed whether or not our existing Kroger, a former Bi-Lo, would remain open. Of course, that's what everyone here has come to expect from the unprofessional newspapers we're stuck with. But in the current economic situation, is it a good idea for Kroger to open a new store? I know that groceries are necessities, and the store would definitely get business from the lake, but it's slated to be just one store in a larger shopping center. Besides, it would be a welcome exception to the job losses around here. What is the best way for a town that relies on state jobs to make it through this bad economy?

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

I was very disappointed. It was much better last time. I went at 4, which was definitely a mistake. Last time, I went at 10 AM on a Saturday. It was nice and not very packed. Yesterday, it took about 30 minutes just to get from the Lenox & Peachtree intersection to the Bloomingdale's parking deck. Then, it was still hard to find a space. I definitely agree with the people say that rapper wannabes go there to show off their "bling" instead of shop. It is very annoying. About half of the people who looked like that went out without shopping bags. The Apple store was nice and big and was not that packed. Abercrombie & Fitch was really packed and was a small store. Bloomingdale's, Macy's, and Lacoste were nice but Lacoste was small too. Then we went to the food court. If you have never been to the food court at Lenox, don't go. After you see that, you will like the mall a whole lot less. It looks like it has not been touched since it opened. It doesn't even looks like they even completely finished it. The flooring in the food court looks like they payed about $10 for all of it. Also, most of it has a really small ceiling height. It's not like it matters that much, but the flooring throughout the mall looked bad and dated also. The mall did look pretty nice in some ways. It looks like they didn't renovate the back either. It looks like it has not been touched as well. The front of the mall has obviously been renovated though. I visited the Mall of Georgia today, and honestly, I liked it better than Lenox. If Lenox was less crowded, was renovated again, and some of the stores were larger that would change my opinion again.

The Bigger Lacoste and abercrombie store are at perimeter mall. All the other stores are pretty much decent size. I hate the food court myself and please dont put labels on people its not cool especially when you dont know them personally. Alot of the Wanna be rappers I have seen spend lots of money In Niemans Also (I used to work for Niemans) Now you can catch me at Barneys NY co Op store in phipps lol . Saturdays are always supper packed in the afternoon Thats the day most African Americans go to Lenox. Caucasin are usually in full affect on sundays. So I would suggest if you dont like saturdays go in the morning and if you cant deal with the wanna be rappers showing off there cars then I would go on sunday

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]
