Should South Florida become its own state?

This thread is ridiculous. It DOES NOT MATTER that the capital is in Tallahassee. Miami has REPRESENTATIVES IN TALLAHASSEE. It's not like a bunch of local Tallahasseeans sit around and decide what happens in South Florida. Some people here really need to take a US Government course. Also, the name calling here is very immature. North Florida and South Florida have "rednecks". However, this name "redneck" in itself is very inflammatory and unnecessary. Florida is very different from north to south. I see this as a good thing. It makes the state diverse. Some people here are very close minded. Yet, they call themselves "liberal". Yeah, I'm talkin to you Larry.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

I agree. If the site were cleaned up and put to positive use, Miamians could enjoy this structure again.

The City of Miami claimed Hurricane Andrew damaged the structure and ceased proper maintenance in 1992. A similar fate hit the Miami (Baseball) Stadium, which has even more architectural and historical significance. Hopefully the beautiful scenery of the site, with downtown as a backdrop will save the stadium.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

The Transformation of Fort Lauderdale

I happened to run across this video of Spring Break 1985 while researching a particular property in Fort Lauderdale. While Spring Break undoubtedly filled the pockets of many merchants, restaurants and hotels, its absebce is not to be mourned. While I never even visited Fort Lauderdale until 1999, I've heard stories about what it was like during the 70's and 80's. Maybe I'm just getting older, but the absence of beer helmets is a good thing....

The Latest Todd English Outpost....

I was pleasantly surprised by our lunch yesterday at da Campo Osteria, the new Todd English bistro at Il Lugano, the condo-hotel on the Intracoastal. I was expecting something along the lines of the Olives in Washington- overpriced food served with extra helpings of attitude. Nothing could have been further from the case here. The food was excellent, the service friendly (ok, so it wasn't perfect in every detail- but a good attitude makes up for a lot). and the prices were comparable to what one would pay on Las Olas.

A quick shot of the open kitchen....
Developers proposing a 17 story mid-priced hotel near the Las Olas Beach Club and the Jackson Tower condominiums are seeing stiff opposition from the residents. While I have no illusions that such a building will be especially attractive, it is rather more realistic to build a mid-priced hotel than another luxury bombshell.
I live in Orlando and have driven all three ways, Sawgrass, Homestead, and I-95, to Key West. I-95 is of course the worst for traffic.
