^^^ I certainly think CLT would be a good home for a MLS expansion team, and honestly better than Atlanta. I don't say this so much about the CLT-ATL rivalry but because of an earlier stated point that I just think MLS would be wiser to expand in under-served markets that offer a large audience pull and yet have little Major league competition at that time of the year.

In other words - I just think MLS would get a bigger bang for their buck with CLT than with ATL though I admit I base that off of just my gut and nothing more.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

A spokesman for the group behind the string soccer exhibitions in the US,Soccer United Marketing, said that Charlotte has been looked at for an MLS expansion team. In his words, he said they "wouldn't turn it down" when asked about the possibility of MLS fielding a team in Charlotte. Take it for what it's worth, but goes to show the QC is on the radar.

In addition, next week's exhibition between Mexico and Iceland at BofA Stadium has already sold over 55,000 tix. Reps expect the game to near a sell out (if not sell out). Just to compare (b/c we love the Atlanta/Charlotte comparisons ), the Georgia Dome had 53,000 for its exhibition last summer.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

Its good if they are emerging from bankruptcy AND paying back their creditors, which include several local companies. Would also love to know if part of their BK deals allows them to break leases in these locations in order to move. Sorry to be so negative, but have little pity for an organization that was the original piggy bank of corporate robber barons and goes into BK the second things get a little tight. If they never return to their formal glory it will not be a loss in my book.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

That's obviously subject to tweaking by the White House and by whichever incarnation it receives in Congress. I'll spare the main board my thoughts on whether or not that would be effective to prevent something similar to what has happened the past two-and-a-half years, but many people think that it would cause GS and MS to rescind their bank holding company election, which would likely cause MS to back away from the direction it has been headed w/r/t building a deposit capital base. After that, there's not much of a reason to keep Cece and the rest of any depository infrastructure in Charlotte or elsewhere.

The latest descriptions of federal finance regulatory reform have included the following statement:

Quote

Another key provision would prevent large bank holding companies, such as Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs Group Inc., from shedding their charter to elude the Fed's scrutiny. The bill is expected to include this provision to prevent banks from trying to game the regulatory architecture.

http://online.wsj.co...eTabs%3Darticle

While lots can happen before passage, in the context of Commonor's above remarks this suggests (to me) that MS will need to decide on its retail banking future soon.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

i realize that this project as-planned is dead or on indefinite hold. my question was what are the odds of a different, scaled-down project or projects being started on this block instead?

if the idea is to sit until a large office tower can be built here, its going sit in rubble for many more years. is the land so valuable that a few mixed-use midrises or something won't fly here?

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

The units I see lit usually are the 2nd and third floors which in my guess must have horrible views of the roof of the gas station (at least the 2nd floor unitt).

I don't know if there are people actually moving in/moved in or if there is final touches being made. If it is people moving in/moved in though (and this is just speculation on my part) I would guess the lower apartments must be a size-able price discount considering the gas station roof issue.

Lastly, I do think that there are two apartments per floor though based on how it seems lit at times. I may be wrong but this is just my perspective from what I see when some are lit.

Well as if any proof is needed that UP has influence, I've noticed since about a week after my post where I said I never saw lights on in this building, that virtually all the units are now fully lit at night!! Although the units facing in the general direction of I-277 are clearly still vacant, at least the building a little more lively now.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

In Deutsche, a 2 vowel combination almost always results in an emphasis on the second vowel.....I never understood why a German company would spell a name counter to its German pronouciation, unless we all say it wrong.....do they say it "sImens?

Anyway, I suppose ENN could be the big news, though I have anticipated it to be smaller in scope and further into the future, but that is just based on my gut feeling. I'd love to be completely surprised, and have a move be announced that no one anticipated......lets say, US Airways? The Hartford? Time Warner Cable?
The poster was in Fort Worth and claimed their connections were deep inside Radio Shack who confirmed there was never any real intention to move so much as wring out some new incentives in their existing locale.

Not sure what that's worth and again - I can't find the original link - so take with a grain of salt.
This was confirmed last night....RadioShack has extended its lease in Fort Worth an additional 5 years.
So....if the Chamber really is working on something bigger than 825 new Siemans jobs, what could it be?

I also recently heard a rumor that 5/3 will be looking to expand their Investment Banking group into Charlotte, though I don't have specifics like timeframe or which product groups would open here.

A small move that I do know for a fact is that RBC Capital Markets is moving thier affordable housing group HQ to Charlotte from Cleveland. They will initially be based in their current SouthPark space, but I'm not sure if they will need to grow into bigger space.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]
