My guess is about an hour. If you look at it, it's a 36 story 200' tower filled with midgets and toy buses. It's also about 1/3 cantilevered by the thin roof of the MCC. Thanks Tower for a just plain god-awful looking building. I like the Peabody, though.

While the economy with regards to development is down, the architectural rendering business is booming; at least with regards to the SoBro area. The 29 story Pinnacle office building was just completed next to the new Symphony Hall and next to the 22 story Encore Condos. The proposed six square block convention center is in the land acquisition stage and the operators and developers of the connected, 47 story hotel have been selected. Now there are a couple of renderings for other proposals or projects related to the convention center which have appeared on the web.

The 40 story (+/-) Peabody Hotel rendering from their architect's web site could possibly have been their proposal for the primary hotel or an associated, independent hotel. I understand they have an interest in making a strong Nashville presence.

Then there is the Tower Investments proposal for a 36 story (+/-) mixed use tower on the CC site itself. This may represent some gamesmanship on the part of Tower to claim a higher value for their land, but there could possibly be some actual intent for development of the subject lot.

Regardless, it is interesting to see the possibilities for the further development of three 35+ story buildings in the area.

You have to get to the end of the article to get the real meat and potatoes... and I quote...

Chambers, who flew to Los Angeles last week to talk about the possibility of moving the hall of fame there, said he hopes he can keep it here, even at the expense of finding an interim site for the next three years. And he hopes the convention center will get built no matter what.

"I'd like nothing better for the museum than to see it go in the convention center," he said Friday. "There are a lot of cities that would like to have a venue like this as a draw. But Nashville is Nashville, and the reason we opened up here in the first place is that it's Nashville."

He is clearly looking for more money as is Tower, etc., he will not move this somewhere else.

The most recent US figures for Audi indicate a 4% drop in sales while globally their sales are up 4.1% for the year.

I feel this is potentially good news on the future Audi expansion in the US. They are believed to be considering adding a line at the Chattanooga VW plant. (Again the dollar to euro exchange rate makes the US favorable for expansion)

Stefan Jacoby has told Bloomberg news that Audi may produce vehicles in Chattanooga. No final decision has been made yet but Euro/Dollar exchange rates remain favorable for US production. VW Chattanooga's 2 million-square-foot plant is designed to build an initial 150,000 cars a year. However, VW is adding 43,000 square feet to the assembly area's 775,000 square feet, and it already has bolstered the size of the paint shop. VW stated in its Foreign Trade area application that it can double Chattanooga manufacturing to 5 million square feet if that capacity is needed. A sport utility vehicle is also rumored. No matter what the exchange rate dictates that as much N. American production as possible must take place in Chattanooga since Mexico is at capacity.

Couple of things,

1. Hill Center is coming along nicely, the office building is almost closed in, and ready to finish out. The Publix is finally taking shape, and the BOA slab is poured for that new facility.

2. The empty lot beside Books A Million, looks like they are filling in what they dug out before for the underground parking. Today they was taking the dirt that was by the Belle Valley entrance, and taking it over and dumping it in the big hole? Kinda weird, Anyone know?

3. Buffalo Wild Wings is finally almost done and the Madison location said they will be opening the 1st of December. Sportclips should be done and ready to open in March 2010. Gamestop will be opening in February.

4. Nashvillewest.com, has been saying coming soon forever, anyone know when this site will be up and running, and what it will include.

edit: Well I didn't do a very good job of linking to Google maps. I thought it would show street level. I will get actual pictures when I get back to Knoxville next week.

Knoxville updates:

Restoration of the building on the corner of Henley St. and Hill Avenue. Here on google maps at street level.

http://maps.google.c...ie7&q=knoxville,+tn&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7TSHB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=Knoxville,+TN&gl=us&ei=6w_3StSXBc_S8Qb4o6zzCQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CBIQ8gEwAA

Another rennovation of a building DT at Broadway and where Jackson Ave, Oak Ave, and Worlds Fair Park Dr meet. I am not sure if it is going to be offices or condos.

http://maps.google.c...ie7&q=knoxville,+tn&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7TSHB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=Knoxville,+TN&gl=us&ei=6w_3StSXBc_S8Qb4o6zzCQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CBIQ8gEwAA

Knoxville has many buildings like this that could be utilized if they had a little work.

A few examples:

This cool looking building on Broadway where it crosses the railroad gulch. Not sure for what it was used. Right before or after Depot Ave.

http://maps.google.c...ie7&q=knoxville,+tn&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7TSHB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=Knoxville,+TN&gl=us&ei=6w_3StSXBc_S8Qb4o6zzCQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CBIQ8gEwAA

Also this building on the corner of Broadway and 5th Ave. It would be perfect for apraments or condos/town homes! I think someone was goiong to restore it because there is/was a sign there saying future home of 5th Ave homes or something like that. Unfortunately, I think the mission down the street, which does good work, negatively affects the area.

http://maps.google.c...ie7&q=knoxville,+tn&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7TSHB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=Knoxville,+TN&gl=us&ei=6w_3StSXBc_S8Qb4o6zzCQ&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CBIQ8gEwAA

I hope they turn Nashville Shores into a decent water park like Whitewater outside of Atlanta or Splashin' Safari at Holiday World. Those are the two water parks I think most Nashvillians venture to when they want something much more substantial than what Nashville Shores provides.
I would love for us to finally get another theme park but I wouldn't want a Six Flags park. I agree about it not winning a beauty contest lol. But I still think its very cool looking.. i like it because there seems to be a lot about it that is just different.. not your usual condo building downtown.

The back side.. i haven't paid a lot of attention but don't think much has been done to it yet.. I believe, if I remember correctly, the plan is to have a greenway back there eventually, which connects all the way up to metrocenter? i think?
They are still finishing up things.. despite having the "ribbon cutting" lol.. there are several condos that are not quite complete yet.. and a few other amenities being worked on still.

I went downtown today to walk around and grab a few pictures...but I forgot my memory card!!! I'm such an idiot. I'll probably get back up there later this week.

The Velocity looks OK....It's not going to win a beauty contest and probably not quality or durability awards either. But for me, I'm starving for any and all retail/residential mixed-use construction in the downtown area. And this definitely fits the bill. I really hope that they are able to attract some retail. I'm amazed by the amount of stuff that's gone into the Gulch so far, the entire 12th ave side of Icon is full and so far, the two times I've been over there, the businesses seem to be doing pretty well. (What a contrast with Encore which is completely empty) So, if Velocity can fill its space it will go a loooong way to really making the Gulch an actual functioning neighborhood and not just another "destination" weekend type place.

And shame on me but I didn't notice what was going on with the back side of the building as I walked along tbe Demonbreun St bridge. I want to say that it's landscaped, but not like a park or greenway quite yet.

Hard to say. That portion of Charlotte Pike coming west from I-40 is poorly configured, and this would be a nice change of scenery for Cracker Barrel compared to where they are now, which is literally a road planner's worst nightmare, IMO.

Not good for Nashville West. Currently, it's one of the safest places to shop. The original plan was for the Precinct to move into the Horizon Building next to Nashville West. After a year of planning and other expenditures by the city on the Horizon Building, the Frensley location suddenly arose. I wonder why the city is offering 4 million for a property that was on the tax rolls valued at 2.9 and that's when it was a working dealership, now it sits empty. The Frensley location is over 2 miles further away, towards downtown. The neighbourhoods around West End and Sylvan park are thrilled. Bellevue would be impacted the most. There's already a Cracker Barrel not even a mile down the road on Charlotte off I-40.

I assume that one would close, if this were to happen. It would essentially be moving (just assuming... surely they wouldn't keep both open, being so close together).

I asked a clerck at the Barrel when they were moving and she said they'd start the new store by next summer if not actually finishing up by then.
i also need to stop by to check it out. however my camera is currently out of town. does anyone know what is on the backside of the building? i thought they might landscape the back to visually set it apart from the rail yard. i thought i remember something about a greenway going through there.

Overton Square Redevelopment (Madison and Cooper)

I think this plan is nice, we have to face the facts that times change and the old overton square is not coming back. While we have plenty of old buildings already preserved in the city I think some new structures will give the area the refreshed look it needs to attract some refreshing customers. Im glad to see new structures in Mid Town, it looks more up to date.
