I am a 36-year-old mom of 2 and I need to move my family. I know Houston is a big city and so maybe it has what we need??? I didn't go to college and I'm trying to raise my kids alone without much money. Everyone talks on here a lot about the really super-rich neighbors and suburbs....is there anywhere that's just decent enough????? I mean like not the most awesome part of town ever but okay enough that I don't have to worry about my children and where they can get a good education??? Sometimes I feel like the whole world is just rich mansions and then like housing projects!!! Isn't there someplace I can work hard and take care of my kids??

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

I've been hearing about the AH killings and it sickens me because I have family there and there are people that give a damn about the community but like everywhere, the riff-raff make it bad. Besides, there are some well-kept homes in AH but less than a few blocks away you're in a hellish part of the community with thugs on every corner. I can see how someone would want to commit murders there because Acres Homes has a country feel to it. It's inner-city with a rural atmosphere. It's interesting because Acres Homes is trying to clean up. Although it's avoided gentrification, gentrification may eventually strike the community.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

Thanks for the photos, all. Judging from my last photo additions to this thread, it's been almost 2 years since I've been down there, and it REALLY doesn't seem like it. We are looking for a place that is obviously safe, good public schools, friendly neighborhood, and all the normal stuff. We don't want to live to far from the downtown though, cuz we both love to enjoy the city. We are looking to try and spend under 150K for a house, but are willing to spend a little more. Ive talked to alot of people and researched a little and Sugarland and Katy keep coming up as good places. Just wanna see if there are any others. Thanks for any input, it's greatly appreciated. We love the warm weather year round, but Cali is just too pricey, so hopefully we can enjoy it in Texas.

Hey, fellow native Michigander here who just moved to Houston a week ago. I'm young and don't have a family, but I found that Pearland would be a good option for you. I live here because I got a job working with the city and it really is a great place. Its the fastest growing suburb in the Houston area and in good traffic is only a short drive from downtown. Very safe, clean and family friendly with great schools. Plus Broadway/518 runs through the center of the city and has everyy type of shopping you could ever want. Best of all its very affordable. You should check it out! Hope this helps. Let me know if you want anymore info.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

But surely you can't be seriously pining for Ruby Tuesday - while trashing kolaches and Texas barbecue? There's actually ONE Krystal in Houston near I-45 and FM1960. One chain that I really miss from up north is some type of Mongolian Barbecue joint (Bd's I think?), can't find a single one down here. Other than that, Houston's restaurant selection is pretty amazing to me.

View information on projects and add your own in our new Project Database: [Link]

Hotel Cotton Destroyed on Sunday

The former Hotel Cotton, built in 1911-13 and later known as the Hotel Montagu, was destroyed on Sunday morning by implosion. There's no doubt that the building had fallen on extremely hard times, but Houston has already lost too much of its inventory of historic buildings. Also to follow in its wale are two other buildings on the block, including the former Bond Department Store. Perhaps there was no hope for saving this building, but it's unfortunate to see even more of Houston's history swallowed up in a cloud of dust.
