Thanks for the lovely photographs! I live in the Sunset, and this residential area, Golden Gate Heights, with the aptly named Grand View Park on top of the hill, to me, is the jewel of the Sunset. I'm glad to see it represented here at Urban Planet. The view from Grand View Park is truly jaw dropping. You see the whole length of the City, and the panorama of the Pacific Ocean is so wide, that it is curved, following the curve of the earth (or am I imagining it?).

Hi Zahc, the first photo is absolutely breathtaking. Muted warm colors as the beige of the building in the front, the brown of the tree and the roof structure or the building in the background set a wonderful foil to the cooler colors, the blue of the sky, the windows in the background building and the lovely bright copper patina green of the steeple of the building in the front. The fact that one building is green with a brown roof, and the other building is brown/beige with a green roof creates a sublime connection and makes the two buildings appear as a whole. Masterful, one of your very best!

I also enjoy the group of gnarled tree-people in the last photo.

Beautiful, poetic sequence of photos. I like to see photos as these in Urban Planet, besides the common photos of highrises and distinctive downtown buildings. What you show is what goes on in a person's home, even dinner table and backyard, including the opossum that lives under the house, or in the shrubs. They're ALL part of the urban planet landscape.

...it was there that I nearly had a Hitchcock/Kim Novak "Vertigo" experience (Bay Bridge instead of the Golden Gate) and was so embarrassed (though no one was around) when I slid on the slippery wet concrete in the dead of night and almost "fell" into cold San Francisco Bay without James Stewart there to rescue me...Then Novak's character really "jumped"; was lying that she fell into San Francisco Bay...

Wonderful photos. You show the pigeon from a very unusual angle, and its pattern reminds me of a NASA photo of a hurricane. Photo No 3 is just lovely. It perfectly shows the hilly topography of our city, as well as the different mini-climate zones. Some areas may be covered in fog, while other, close-by areas are lit with sunshine. Also, the photo captures the different architectural styles of the city. Photo No 4 is my favorite. Fractions of mostly windowless house walls, utility poles, public announcement speakers/sirens, smoke stacks, create a wonderful abstract composition of shapes, gentle colors, patterns, giving a distinct urban flavor, run-down, decrepit even, and yet, when seen through your eyes, beautiful.

There's something about these photos that is really amazing. The surface of the water in the first and last photo almost looks like it is covered with gold leaf plating. At first I even thought the third photo was of a stairs leading toward a wet street...
