It's a shame they're going to take up that much land just for one building and a parking garage.

The other way to think about this comment, and the accompanying picture, is that the adjacent lot (forefront of picture) is almost exactly the same size and holds a bank branch and surface parking.  Approximately 10 people on that lot at any given time, from 9-5, 5 days a week.

I'll take the SkyHouse density, massing, and 24/7 usage every time.

I agree about Skyhouse...but I'm talking about the garage, more than anything.  Would have been nice if the garage was under Skyhouse and another building was going where the garage will be located.

Shame that so many local gems were demolished for recent projects while The US Bank drive-thru in the foreground of the above photo, and other Smyrna transplants like it, remain and continue to mar the neighborhood.

For now.    This particular branch location is an inefficient use of valuable real estate.  It's highest and best use for me, personally, has been a cut-through from Division to Broadway.   In this era of online banking, direct deposit and ATMs, most of these suburban style bank branches could be downsized  to accommodate about 5 employees and 2 or 3 customer parking spaces.     In fact, many of the older stand-alone branch buildings could be eliminated entirely and simply lease ground floor space in larger office or mixed use buildings, like the urban banking facilities you see everywhere in major cities around the world (like below, with multiple ATMs in a well-lit, glass enclosed, 24-hr, climate controlled space).    Most banks here seem to think we customers are perfectly happy standing outside at ATMs squinting at screens in direct sun with our backs to the sidewalk.

(Yes, I know this is the Skyhouse thread, we're talking about its neighbor, which should consider moving into Skyhouse's retail space)

Not that it justifies the incredible waste of space, but that U.S. Bank does have a unique feature. There is an entire half of the building with a separate, private, entrance marked as "Sports and Entertainment Banking".

I'm not quite sure what goes on in there, but I imagine that after you enter and are handed your complimentary cocktail, you sit around the fire with Taylor Swift and Shea Weber, smoke fine cigars, enjoy the balance of your interest free accounts, laugh at the po' folk through the one way mirror, yet wonder what is behind door #3, which is marked "Fortune 500 CEO banking", where of course there are a handful of gentlemen being tended to by their complimentary butlers, staying warm around the fire of actual greenbacks, smoking Cuban cigars, trading insider tips, enjoying the balance of their tax free off-shore accounts, and looking at the entertainers through their one way mirror and laughingly exclaiming "dance, puppets, dance!".

Or maybe there are just shorter lines.

Hey!!!  That's my bank and that's my entrance!!!!  They have a private banker that handles all our "music" related business.  It's like the hidden Suntrust Entertainment Branch on Music Row that only people that need to know...know about.  The line is shorter too and I like the cocktail and cigar idea by GOD!!!  I'm going to suggest it!
