Per Mayor Bob, the city has the money for CanalFront. Construction documents are 98% complete and should be complete in a couple of weeks. Advertising for bid is dependant upon the FEMA permit. Depending on the results of the cross section survey of the river and the corresponding revision to the flood study it could be several weeks or several months before the city can go to bid.

Good news! This will be a great public space.

Don't forget, even our smaller neighbor to the south, Augusta, has tour boats on their canal. They go via these cool "Petersburg Boats", see the photo at the top of the page--these things are HUGE! See it here (although they are down until later this year due to maintenance):

We definitely need boats in our canal. Speaking of the canal, I shot some photos of the soon-to-be-completed Esplanade the other day. Unfortunately the fountain was off because of the cold weather, but they did a good job with it.

Yeah waccamatt boats will be nice. Like a small ferry for tourist. and something for the family to enjoy.

i also took some pictures of the canalside and the canal water front.philadelphia%20017.JPGthis picture was before the they built the park there. but the water is deep enough to support small boat or a small ferry.

The city is supposed to award the construction contract today for the pavilion to be built adjacent to EdVenture, in effect expanding the square footage of the museum and providing a plaza on the canal that is being billed as the jewel of the greenway. Actually Innovista's riverfront park will be the jewel, but for now this $2 million plus addition of the greenway will give that area of Gervais Street a big boost. The funding for the pavlion is there, so we should see movement real soon. Another $8 million construction contract should be awarded in about six months for the part of the project that will hug the canal along the greenway.
