^I believe thats the plan, though I don't know if the towers will be moved further inland now after Katrina, like many other condo towers near Slidell have.

Is this a new project, or is it the as-yet-incomplete portion of RiverGarden? Looks better than I anticipated.

Also, this thread should include Tracage:

That project was proposed for the city a few weeks before Katrina, though has been been focused more upon recently.

A great development related article from Times Magazine..

New Orleans: A Future by the River?
Developers are planning for a boom-by the city's waterfront
Article

I'm very exited about the deal that was made with the Port of N.O. to open up four miles of riverfront land for development, I think this area is going to be very developed in the next few years, mostly by high-rises.
IMO, New Orleans is going to have a fantastic skyline in the next decade. :D

I think people should also remember the Convention Center Expansion. It should resume full construction again this summer. If you havent seen the renderings, it looks totally different from the existing halls. It is much more sleek , and has a wavy glass entrance. Then there is the erato street cruise terminal currently under construction.

Nothing against Baton Rouge, but I sincerely hope New Orleans is able to return to normal. I hope all those people move back to New Orleans, even if they have to live in high-rise apartments as opposed to flood-prone housing.

My wife and I were counting New Orleans out for the next few years, but we just might have to make it back down there soon. Too bad she's going to be working a lot of overtime on our anniversary this year (March 25,) because otherwise we'd be there.

I also ran into Rande Gerber a few months back at Whiskey Blue. He said they are in town looking into building a Hard Rock Condotel in downtown New Orleans. And if you can i suggest you check out the Port of New Orlean's website for a rendering of the Erato street cruise terminal. It looks pretty large considering it is just a garage. Cheers.

I am still very much surprised of all this development going on here after what this city has been through. I think it's great for this city though.

It suprises me sometimes as well. And most of the major development hasn't even taken place. There are projects in the works that are much larger than most of the developments on this board. In the coming months, I think we'll start to see the high-rise developments getting taller and taller, and many more of them being proposed, especially in lower downtown and along the river, which is really becoming prime real-estate. :D

Wow...what an ambitious expansion! This should help New Orleans get its convention business back on track. Great news indeed!

Wow, that is impressive-looking. The existing building was state-of-the-art when it was built, but the style is so outdated now. This is great news for New Orleans and for the convention market as a whole.

I'm not completely sure, but I know it will be in the top 10 largest in the country, and possibly the top 5.

We're already in the top five. We will bump to #4.

• Las Vegas Convention Center, 3.2 million
• McCormick Place, Chicago, 2.13 million
• Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, 2 million
• Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, 1.4 million
• Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, 1.1 million

The expansion will add another 550,000 square feet of exhibition space.
