Hotel Van Zandt will be the name of the Kimpton Hotel that will be built in the Waterfront District. As mentioned earlier it will be 29-stories with 55 condominiums atop 290 hotel rooms. It will also feature a 5,000 sf deck, ballroom, and 100-seat restaurant. Prices for the condos will range from $500,000 - $2,000,000 for units between 1,450 sf and 5,000 sf in size.

The Shore, which is already under construction next door, has sold 70% of its units and the rest are reserved.

I was excited to read the QUOTE about Isaac Van Zandt and Townes Van Zandt and the background for this great hotel - but I was surprised that no one has mentioned the other "famous" relative from this fine family - my dad! Anyone remember "The Green Hornet"? Portrayed on TV by Van Williams - whose full name is Van Zandt Jarvis Williams. I can't wait to tell him about this hotel! :camera:

70% is a great number and I am sure the reserved will be filled without a problem.

Man, the 'waterfront' district is going to be unrecognizable in a few years, if most of the proposed developments become reality. I understand that a huge portion of this area is up for sale by a single developer.

Came across a webcam for The Shore. Appears to be mounted on the crane, so it's hard to tell just how far along they are on construction.

that is ridiculously hard to even look at... to bad they didn't have something so you could see the facade. maybe they will once they reach the top.

Yeah I totally agree... the perspective of that webcam is almost useless! Basically you're looking down on a concrete 'slab' of each successive floor that goes up. This is the most recent pic I have, and its a 'drive-by', from a distance:

still kind of hard to tell, but is that the back or front side? because atleast form a distance you can't see the "not-so-beautiful" base.

The west-facing side of The Shore, visible in my picture, is the vantage point depicted in most of the renderings I've seen. Here's one of the renderings, which includes Hotel Van Zandt on the left... very similar perspective to how they will look from the Congress Ave Bridge:

I think they may be started initial work on the Hotel part because I noticed they had heavy equipment and alot of dirt movment just next to the shore where the hotel is supposed to go up. So hopefully we should see that building rise soon.

Wow, good find! Thats a slick complex emerging...the rendering puts everything into perspective. I had yet to come across a good rendering of The Shore up until now. Van Zandt looks good too...the design reminds me a bit of the W hotel in dallas, with the 'notch' between the hotel and condo floors..pool deck and all.

Van Zandt will connect to The Shore where the blank wall is in this pic (from last week)

The 22-story Shore looks to be complete (on the outside anyway), not sure when people will be moving in. Site prep for the Kimpton Hotel took place last year and I haven't heard anything reliable about when construction is supposed to start. Since the Shore and Kimpton were designed to be connected up to the sixth floor, one side of the base of the Shore will always look unfinished if the hotel isn't built.

The Hotel portion of the project has been put on hold. This is according to a Kimpton Hotel spokesperson.

Well that makes sense, but does leave this looking unfinished.

I hope something is revived there soon. the hotel/condo looked very nice together

The developer announced today that they could only secure financing for the Hotel portion of the project. So it was redesigned as a 16 story hotel instead of the 31 story hotel with condos on the top floors. Here's the new rendering:

so, what is actually being buit?

In the new rending I understand that is the Hotel, but it will be paired with the shorter building from the earlier rendering?

so the tall building is now replaced by this new shorter hotel correct?

any images of what they will look like together?

The hotel will still be connected to the completed condo tower. There is a hideous cement wall on the side of the condo tower where the hotel will attach (see post 33 above). If the hotel were not built it would be quite an eyesore. Basically, the only change to this project is that the 15 floors of condos on top of the hotel won't be built. There is still a healthy demand for highrise condos downtown which is why a lot of the projects are still moving forward. But the developers of this hotel could only secure financing for the hotel portion. There is an even bigger demand for hotels downtown and financing for hotels seems easier to get these days.
