PBN: "Pontiac Mills hotel breaks ground"

http://www.pbn.com/stories/26388.html

PROJO: "Groundbreaking today at Pontiac Mills"

"The construction of the NYLO Hotel project at the Pontiac Mills revitalization in Warwick will be celebrated today with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Michael Mueller, president and chief development officer of NYLO Hotels, Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian and Hampton Hodges, owner of Pontiac Mills. The hotel is the first to start construction as an anchor tenant of the project and will combine urban loft design with affordable rates. The site was a textile mill dating back to the mid 1800s. The master plan for the project includes a mix of restaurants, residences and businesses."

from the 11/28 PROJO:

"New hotel seeks original local artwork

NYLO Hotels is seeking original artwork by local artists to display in its first hotel in New England — NYLO Warwick — making its debut in the summer next to historic Pontiac Mills. The company is seeking to create an exhibit reflecting the Providence/Warwick art scene. Winning paintings and photography will be on display in the hotel guestrooms, corridors and public spaces and will be available for purchase online at www.nylohotels.com or at the hotel. Artists will also be candidates for cash prizes ranging from $750 to $2,250. The company makes no profit on the competition and artists will share revenues with a local nonprofit organization. The hotel will host a show of the winning pieces this spring at Pontiac Mills. The competition, which runs through March 1, is open to everyone, with emphasis on emerging, or less familiar, artists, including students at area art schools. There is no entry fee. For a complete set of rules or to submit a digital entry, contact Amanda Emmo at aemmo@nylohotels.com"

So these guys are just about as weird as you could ask for. They recently launched a website where they spell out their whole deal.

NYLO isn't a hotel, it's an experience, an attitude. It's a line of clothing, music and art. That's the Daniel Vosovic connection - he designs the fashions. Also, the use of local artists to decorated is a theme/selling point.

They purposely seek non-urban (suburban) location because "that's where business really gets done."

Oh sweet - I'll finally be able to replace my Howard Johnsons Windbreaker with a slick Nylo jacket.

I've heard that this new hotel will open in July.

According to their website (www.nylohotels.com), Warwick will be location #2. Plano, TX is the flagship with 2 others announced: Irving, TX and Overland Park, KS.

I fell asleep reading that list of locations.

This company sounds like it wants to be a Waterfire sponsor.

This hotel I predict will do very well because of it's location along the cleaned up Pawtuxet River. And it's close prox. to the mall. It is amazing to think that this corner of Warwick will be transformed once the hotel opens later this month.

There's an ad for Nylo in this month's ProMo, says it is opening "mid-August."

I completely miss the point of the suburban locations. Plano, Overland Pk, Warwick, Irving? Those are places I want to get away from, not go to.

A co-worker said he received a free night stay at the NYLO for this week as a good will gesture since he lives across the street. He also got a coupon for reduced meals.

Sounds like the NYLO is trying to get off on the right foot.
