Wow! No one on here has been to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, AL? I guess it's strictly a Deep South (AL, MS, LA), MidSouth, and Midwest destination even though it actually gets a higher share of hotel business than even Destin and Panama City (I was suprised by this. BTW, I grew up going to Destin and absolutely love that place). I'm suprised more Atlanta area residents haven't been to GS/OB.

As for me, I've been to Bham, Huntsville, GS/OB, Biloxi, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Houston, Destin, PCB, Nashville, Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Orlando, Lakeland, Anna Maria Island, Miami, Boone NC, Richmond, Williamsburg, Washington DC, Charlottesville/Lexington VA, and West Virginia (Snowshoe) snow skiing 4 times.

Savannah. After a visit there that included a 90-minute tour, I fail to see what all the hoopla over Charleston is about. In terms of a historic setting, Savannah most definitely deserves at least equal billing. The public squares and the riverfront area have it all over Charleston.

I am interested in learning what cities everyone has been to as a tourist, not on business or visiting family. What places did you study about in advance and then take a vaction at for no other reason than to enjoy yourself? If you feel the family ties are necessary because you planned both in coordination, that is okay as well.

I've been all over FL and AL, and much of MS and TN as a tourist.

I especially like visiting the Gulf Coast.

After that, it's more hit-and-miss - places like New Orleans, Dallas, Atlanta, Callaway Gardens in GA,

Asheville, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Riverbanks in Columbia, Mammoth Cave in KY...
