Gosh, this is going to be a long list, but here goes:

I will leave the border states of Maryland and Delaware off since their "Southerness" is debatable.

First, for USC football "away" games:

Blacksburg, Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Knoxville, Nashville, Clemson, Greenville, NC, Athens, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Atlanta, Starkville, Ms., Memphis, Jacksonville, Gainesville, Tampa, Miami, Tallahassee and Lexington, Ky. I will add Chapel Hill to this list when we kill the Tar Heels this fall.

For USC basketball "away" games (ok, a few repeats):

Athens, Atlanta, Knoxville, Clemson, Blacksburg, Raleigh, Charlotte, Greenville, NC, Charleston, Kansas City (ok, another border state) and Mobile

For vacations I will use the guideline of spending the night or visiting an attraction there:

Greensboro, Durham, DC, Arlington, Alexandria, Charleston, WV, Richmond, Petersburg, Wilmington, NC, Myrtle Beach, Greenville, SC, Asheville, Boone, Saluda, NC, Walhalla, SC, Spartanburg, SC, Hilton Head Island, SC, Columbia (before I moved here), Savannah, Orlando, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, Key West, Pompano Beach, Daytona Beach, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Biloxi, Gulfport, Tunica, Houston, Dallas, Birmingham, Augusta, Camden, SC, Florence, SC, Rocky Mount, NC, Wilson, NC, Henderson, NC, South of the Border, SC, Sumter, SC.

The major or significant places of interest I have visited on vacation or weekend trips non-business related in the South:

Tennessee: Memphis, Jackson, Clarksville, Nashville, Knoxville, Gatlinburg

Kentucky: Paducah, Bowling Green, Lexington, Frankfort

Mississippi: Gulfport, Jackson

Louisiana: New Orleans, Morgan City, New Iberia, Baton Rouge

Florida: Miami, Fort Myers, Naples

It would take to long to list all the smaller cities and communities I have visited on trips.

In the states of LA, MS, AL, FL, GA ,SC, NC ,TN, KY, WV, VA and MD I have been to all of the cities in these states w/metro area at 100k or greater and to most cities/areas in these states that are 50K plus. In AR I've only been to Little Rock and Fort Smith and in TX: Only DFW, Houston, San Antonio and EL Paso.

My favs are:

New Orleans

Wilmington NC

Asheville NC

Myrtle Beach SC

Virginia Beach VA

...and I went to Orlando when I was like, five years old.

I don't really think of DC or Alexandria as southern cities, though my exploits there have been primarily touristic in nature.

Woo hoo! I have been all over! <_< Due to work, ill grandparents and a not-so-good paying job, I have not been many places... hope to someday when I win the lotto. :ermm:

Charlotte, NC, Wilmington, NC and Monteagle, TN .... yeah, thats the only places (and of course the places in between there we stopped along the way). All other southeastern trips have been to visit family.

Must be nice BTW... :)

AL - Mobile, Birmingham, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa

GA - Atlanta, Brunswick

SC - Myrtle Beach, Columbia, Greenville, Spartanburg, Cheraw

NC - Asheville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, Raleigh/Durham, Chapel Hill, Fayatteville, Boone, Wilmington, (I live in Charlotte)

FL - Pensacola, Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, St. Augustine, Daytona, Cape Canaveral, Gainesville, Miami, Key West

TN - Knoxville, I've only passed through Nashville

MS - Biloxi, Gulfport

LA - New Orleans a LONG time ago

VA - Richmond, Martinsville, Willaimsburg

Do the following count as southern?

WV - Charleston, Morgantown

MD - Baltimore, Annapolis

KY - Only passed through Louisville.

DC - Yeah I don't if I'd count this as southern.

Have not been to Arkansas or Texas yet.

I included Atlanta, Mobile, and Pensacola - even though I have relatives there I've been to those citys on occasions other than to visit family.
