Hey guys. Barry from Bear Manor here. We will have the building ready for the Vandenbergs to take over in early Spring. We just started construction on it, and it's crazy in there! We're pouring new concrete footings today, and we should have the all important "floor" in early next week. Personally I think we should have left the floor out and made the basement into a swimming pool...
Thanks for the update, Barry. Welcome to the board.

Feel free to post pictures of the inside as you go :D

We tryed to get that billboard down. It went to the city planning meeting but it is owned by Viacom, one of the biggest media corporations in the world with the biggest lawyers in the world. They walked right over us. Even Bazzani couldn't do anything about it. As far as i know the contract has like 10 more years on it.
There has been talk of planting trees in front of it.

As far as a patio goes, we got the zoning approval for a beer garden in the back. There is a 25' x 30' are between the back of the building and Bazzani's fence. It will be great in the summer!
We tried to help on this too but were shot down. We bought a building that has two signs on it and the lease expires on these signs in April We were going to hold the lease on these two billboard hostage and force Viacom to take down the bill board mentioned and the one next to Uptown. It was a no go, because the organization buying the building from us does not want the billboards past April.

At any rate, according to the Viacom leases we inherited through the purchase of properties "if at anytime a building is constructed or any other structure blocks the visibility of the sign, Viacom has the right to end their lease." At least that is my paraphrase of the way it is worded. I take this to mean that there would be nothing stopping anyone from planting trees to block the sign. Also, if Viacom reverses the sign next to Uptwon, which I expect them to do, I hope Guy Bazzani builds a nice big building on his lot to block the sign completely.

You first need to sign up for an online photo hosting site like flickr, photobucket or imageshack (to name a few). Most of them have free memberships for limited amounts of uploads (or it's like $3/month to upgrade).

Once you have your photos uploaded to your site, then you can copy and paste the URL here using the little "image" icon when you post a reply. Or if you need help after you get your photos hosted, just post back in this thread.

Congrats! I hope to be there when you serve your first beers. I'll be sure to bring my father, who used to bowl on the Two Stan's Bar Bowling Team in the late 1950s. Hope you'll have Ham's on tap.

Let's see some pictures of the interior! :) Also, when does exterior construction begin. Any renderings?

We have just finished the rough framing on the inside, and turned it over to the subs. Most exterior work will start when it gets warm enough to paint. We are not radically changing the facade- the glass block by the front door will run all the way to the ground, and the side windows will be replaced with picture glass. Besides that, just tucking up the old siding and painting... I would also like to throw a couple of deco lights on the front, but I haven't talked to the historical folks about that yet. I have some pictures for you, but I still can't get them to post- Help! How do you get them from flickr to here?

If you are using Firefox for your browser, open up separate tabs for UrbanPlanet and flickr. Go to flickr and just above the photo you want is a tab called "ALL SIZES", click on that. Pick the size photo you want (might as well pick one of the largest because UP automatically resizes them). Underneath the photo you will see "Grab the photo URL". Copy that and come back to UP and click on Insert Image icon, paste the photo onto that line. You can then "preview post" to see if it worked correctly. Let me know if that works.
