River Place Condominiums

Oh oh, guys. Somebody wants to delete the "RiverPlace Condominiums" artcile on Wikipedia. The reason is "Six Years of No Progress", what a slap in the face :(. The generic explanation says that if I "correct" the article it won't be deleted, but there's nothing I can do. I guess I'll just have to create a new page when Preis releases more information at the end of the month.

thanks for that update, anyways, let wiki delete the page, no content there is stable anyways, it can be delete or edited at any time, besides, the page only announces the truth, 6 year of nothing but wishful thinking, fancy designs, constant oh yea it's going to happen, and the dream of luxury living downtown.

Thanks for the head's up Dan. Wow, I had not realized it was 2002?? The wiki article does talk about the announcement made at the end of February about the info in 60 days. I would say give til the middle of May before deleting it; but that's just me.

They got the address wrong; it's not on Third Street.

I guess that means other cities around the U.S. should be getting projects deleted in the future too.

They are probably from New Orleans....

I think New Orleans. I remember reading wiki about a year and a half ago, and there were some bitter things said about Baton Rouge "Post Katrina" on the Baton Rouge page. But I wish no ill will against the Cresent. I love New Orleans for it's historical ties to the State, and I think that's what thier main focus should be on. The preservation of thier historical properties, tourism. Those are the venues that made it what it is. That's just my opinion. Regarding RiverPlace, I think Pries needs to hurry up and start construction! He still has a some time left with this housing market, if he will just build, instead of procrastinating. I was coming back across the bridge today and can visualize how great Downtown's going to look after all is built, we are achieving what people would of said was impossible 20 years ago. I love how it looks coming up Hwy 1 from Brusly, when you get right up around the Port, and you see the Capitol,One American Place, and the Chase Towers all behind the Bridge, that's always been a impressive site to me.

Dan, I read through the "user talk" page concerning the Riverplace wiki, (I do alot of "work" over at Wikipedia as well) and the user that recommended deleting the Riverplace wiki has been at it for quite some time, with his first "recommended for deletion" request coming 15 months ago. Also, the only New Orleans user with connections to the deletion request for Riverplace actually requested not to have the wiki deleted, pointing out that there have been numerous delays relating to rising construction costs following the hurricanes in 2005. I realize there was alot of anti-Baton Rouge stuff coming from New Orleanians following Katrina, but I don't think too many folks in this city, even the one's that dislike BR, are going to spend 15 months campaigning for the Riverplace page on Wikipedia to get deleted. The guy that's been doing this just seems to love deleting things on Wikipedia, as he has also requested deletions of everything from individual pictures to an entire page on a certain type of diet.

Probably another false alarm but today as I rode by the Riverplace site, it looked as though the lot had been cleared off of the clutter; cars, trucks and various other material that had been on the site for some time. We are getting close to the latest deadline aren't we?

I guess you're right, Nate. 15 months is a long time to be campaining for deletion. Oh well, if it is deleted, then I'll just make another one and he can spend 15 monthes deleting that too.

The estimated release date is exactly 2 weeks from today on April 22. Let's hope it's serioulsy serious this time. :tough:

I agree they should focus their time, energy and federal money rebuilding what made the city great to begin with, not trying to make it a "modern city". But most importantly they need to clean it up on so many levels and aspects. I love NOLA and lived there for a time, but each time I go back I just keep thinking to myself "this place is becoming more of a dump." Course in my mind it will NEVER be what it was pre-Katrina.... :shades:

I would hope that no one in New Orleans is wasting time complaining about an article on Wikipedia. As for New Orleans being what it was before Katrina, I don't think anyone would want New Orleans to be what it was immediately before Katrina. It was in a downward spiral. That spiral seems to be in reverse, now.

New Orleans continues to recover, and New Orleans will improve. The level of public involvement in government is phenomenal, and as President Bush said while in town for a summit that was held in New Orleans, people have a "bounce in their step", that things are getting better, that things are working. The fact that work has aactually begun on site preparation for the new Gibbs tower, a 38 story apartment tower at 930 Poydras, is evidence of that.

I don't like reading negative statements from New Orleans residents about BR, and vice versa. One of the biggest problems that people in this state have is that they are too narrow-minded. With any luck, we just may have finally elected a governor who will help people realize this type of behavior is not helpful to anyone in Louisiana. When people realize this, then things will look up for the entire state. With that, the New Orleans - Baton Rouge area could become the next great southern urban corridor.

Thanks for the video-clip Dan the man  I'm stoked! A new day for downtown! It was reported on WAFB and Kip Holden too, hyping River Park as another Perkins Rowe.

That's OK. Dan, eventhough they said 60 days(which should have been nearly three weeks ago) I can wait 60 more. But some kind of groundbreaking needs to be announced by Summer's end; for real!

I like the way they showed the construction going on at II City Plaza. Can't wait to see the new Courthouse finally go vertical anytime now with the basement complete.

Riding around late this morning, Downtown was filled with elementary school kids taking field trips! From them rollin' down the leveled terraces at the Old State Capitol; in long lines at the LASM/Planetarium; holding up traffic crossing the street at the Main Street Market and headed toward the new La.State Museum, it was really NICE to see all the activity!!! + the construction cranes at II City Plaza, new Courthouse, Kress at Third, One Eleven.... and tall parking garage at the Belle of BR Casino. Which doesn't look half bad for a parking garage.

The Roux House was even putting up there new sign on Third Street. And the(name?) little emergency broadcast bldg. on Florida at Seventh is currently about to double in size!

Good...this project will light a fire under Preis to get Riverplace moving. If it was started 2 years ago it would be complete and sold out by now.

The land either needs to be developed or sold. Pick one, because they paid to much to sit on it for 10 years.

Yeah I say by summer something major needs to happen. If we are going into Fall and we still haven't seen any groundbreaking then I'll classify this project as dead... :shades:

I think something will be built on this site, even if its not what we had hoped for. CNN Money Magazine recently ranked Baton Rouge 9th in the top ten growing housing markets in the nation. That tells me, that Baton Rouge is still growing during this "hard" economic time. So there must be some kind of market for condos. I can also tell you this, almost everyone in my generation wants to be downtown, and wants to live in condos, most people dont want that house out in the suburbs. So I think building condos now, is good foresight, because i think it will be the next big trend, just like the ranch house 40 min out in the suburbs hes been the past couple of decades.

I have said this a few times before...

Though it's been so frustarting to many, I would much rather have waited all this time (longer) for something "special" like a gleaming vertical neighborhood 30-stories (+?) that's a striking landmark to the BR skyline; than to compromise and settle for another run-of-the mill 12 story tower that might already be completed. That would have been the easy road for most developers wanting to purchase the property. That's why I can appreciate Preis "bold" vision!
