Downtown Greensboro Developments

Name any city in this state (or nation) that has an entire restored 18th Century historic district located immediately adjacent to their central downtown area as a living museum. Now that offers a City a certain degree of uniqueness unmatched by few if any other city. The park-like beauty of Old Salem offers just as much if not more of a recreational amenity as a "greenway". Which by the way, a greenway courses its way through Old Salem from a point Downtown & connects with the Salem Creek Greenway that winds its way all the way out to the Salem Lake Greenway, offering a direct route of more than 12 miles of greenway. Now that's some one of kind amenities.

Looks like Bellemeade Village across from the ballpark is under construction. They have erected fencing around the site and digging on the site. It's going to take 2 years to build the massive apartment complex and Hyatt hotel

Bellemeade Village across the street from the ballpark is officially under construction. Looks like the design for the Hyatt hotel has slightly been updated. It has more glass on the entry area and has less brick. Looks a lot better than the first rendering. This is a pretty massive development and it could help spur further development around the ballpark. The mid-rise complex will include ground level retail / restaurants.

A block and a half east of Bellemeade Village is the site for the 3,000 seat Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts. They have one more building to tear down.

The Southeastern Building was Greensboro's first skyscraper and the renovation a moving along nicely with a restaurant on the ground level and a mix of office and luxury apartments on the upper levels

Here is a photo update for the mixed-used Union Square University development which will consist of educational buildings, retail, office, residential and eventually a hotel. Construction on the first educational building is well under way. Cone Health, UNCG, NC A&T and GTCC will collaborate together in this building and there will be nursing training classes and a simulator.

Rendering...there is another large apartment building not visible in the rendering. This is going to look great overlooking the ballpark! The entire ballpark district is booming with development. There is already a grocery store, other apartments and new restaurants and breweries opening up.

Hey ya'll. Just a shoutout...I spent last weekend in downtown and along Spring Garden/Walker/Elam areas and had a fantastic time. I should note that I was born in GSO but moved away at three years old, so it's a treasured place to me anyway...but I was very impressed with all the various happenings. The Southend is looking good with HQ Raleigh, the distillery, Boxcar and Gibbs Hundred being some bigger operations either  up and running or coming soon to compliment all the stuff on Elm that has been doing their thing for some years. Also the Battleground/Eugene area is looking good with a nice mix of breweries, new apartments and other things. It was a good slice of cool things without the pretentious pricing of the Raleigh/Durham area I have to contend with all the time (brunch, antiques, a pint of beer are all stupid expensive here). That its all within easy day trip reach, means I'll be back...hopefully soon.

Cheers!

No they haven't stopped. I've noticed difference in the past few days with steel framing. However construction does seem to be moving slower compared to other large projects in the city. Phase two of Spartan Village on Gate City Blvd seems to be going along much faster than Carroll at Bellemeade.
