If you think about it, if Perkins Rowe were built during a stronger economy then it would have been a huge success because Tony would have made money off the sold condos. But they didn't sell and he drowned in the debt. But if he didn't have the money HOW is he paying for the work on the subdivision on Perkins?

Most developers and investors incorporate their separate investments as different legal entities. If one of them fails, it doesn't bring down ever investment, and then the individual in charge can normally walk away, not to mention, I am sure he has great insurance.

Taco Del Mar prepares to re-enter south Louisiana market

Taco Del Mar, a casual dining Mexican chain, is set to re-enter the south Louisiana market. The Seattle-based company has signed a deal with Hugh Stiel, who has served as a Subway development agent locally since the mid 1980s. Stiel says he plans to open 30 Taco Del Mar locations over the next 18 months, from southeast Texas to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The chain specializes in fish tacos, overstuffed burritos and freshly made salsa and guacamole. When Taco Del Mar entered the south Louisiana market about five years ago, it had similarly ambitious goals, talking about opening up to 16 Baton Rouge locations. But the chain opened one restaurant on Government Street in 2007, which closed after a few months. Matthew Hughes, a development manager who works for Stiel, says the situation is different now. Taco Del Mar filed for bankruptcy last year and was purchased by a company created by the founders of Subway. "We're going to utilize all of our resources and experience with Subway to make it work," Hughes says. Stiel is looking for Baton Rouge locations and franchisees for Taco Del Mar. "Baton Rouge is an excellent market for Subway, so we expect it will be the same for Taco Del Mar," Hughes says.

Serop's Express opening on Perkins

A Serop's Express is set to open this fall at the intersection of Perkins Road and Bluebonnet Boulevard. The restaurant will go into a space that had been occupied by Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut largely pulled out of Baton Rouge and New Orleans early this year as a result of a dispute between the chain and the local franchise owner. Vasken Kaltakdjian, who owns Serop's, says the new location will have a drive-through window. Kaltakdjian says the Greek and Lebanese restaurant chain has wanted to be in the area because of all the surrounding homes and businesses. "It seems like that's the direction the city is growing in," he says. Mark Hebert of Kurz & Hebert Commercial Real Estate brokered the deal. The new location will give Kaltakdjian four Serop's Express restaurants, in addition to two locations of Serop's Cafe.

Haha, Twin Peaks, ;)

'Twin Peaks coming to Siegen Lane

Twin Peaks Restaurant plans to open its first Louisiana location in November on Siegen Lane. The restaurant will go into the old Shoney's building, which was recently home for Osaka Japanese restaurant. Twin Peaks falls into the same category as Hooters, employing an all-female waitstaff clad in skimpy uniforms. The restaurant specializes in guy-friendly dishes, such as hamburgers, wings and nachos, along with ice-cold draft beer. Nation's Restaurant News dubbed Twin Peaks as a hot concept in 2010. Jim Clark Cotton Lloyd, who has the local Twin Peaks franchise, plans to open another location in New Orleans next year. Randy DeWitt, CEO of Twin Peaks, which is based in Addison, Texas, says the company had been looking at entering the Louisiana market for years, because it's a "state that appreciates quality food, a great bar and attractive women." He says, "It was just a matter of finding the right franchisee, and we have found that person in Jim."'

The Café Roux building on Sullivan Road in Central has been sold for $540,000, and a Louis DeAngelo's Casual Italian restaurant is set to move into the space. A partnership of DeAngelo, Mike Breaux, Charlie Kinsley and John O'Hearin bought the building from Rick Bennett in a deal that closed Thursday. The Central DeAngelo's will feature favorites such as specialty pizza, salads and fresh pasta, along with new dishes being developed by Executive Chef Michael Dardenne. DeAngelo's has five locations in the Capital Region; in addition, DeAngelo has partnered with Mike Wampold in creating Zolia, a new restaurant under construction in the II City Plaza building downtown.

Santa Fe Cattle Co. expanding into Prairieville

Baton Rouge-based Santa Fe Cattle Co. restaurant chain has leased a 5,000-square-foot space in the Ultima Plaza shopping center that formerly was occupied by Red Stick Bistro. Giovanni Mucciacciaro Enterprises has leased the property to DBMC Restaurants of Prairieville, which will open the restaurant in the next two or three months. The Airline Highway location, just north of La. Highway 427, includes a dining room, private room and 1,000-square-foot patio. The lease term is 10 years, with two five-year renewal options. Mark Hebert with Kurz & Hebert Commercial Real Estate brokered the transaction. The chain has expanded its operations in recent years. Prairieville was a prime candidate, given the residential growth that has taken place in the northern part of Ascension Parish. Although Santa Fe Cattle Co. is based in Baton Rouge, the Prairieville location will be its third restaurant in the state. The chain has a Hammond location and a restaurant in Ruston is set to open this summer.

N.O. crepe restaurant coming to Mall of Louisiana

La Crepe Nanou, a New Orleans-based French bistro, is set to open a location at the Mall of Louisiana by Oct. 1. The 3,000-square-foot restaurant will be in the mall's open-air Boulevard lifestyle center, behind Menchie's Frozen Yogurt. Todd Denton, the mall's general manager, says the plan is for La Crepe Nanou to be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. "It will be nice to get them in here," he says. La Crepe Nanou has been open in uptown New Orleans since 1983, serving French bistro dishes, such as steamed mussels and escargots, along with sweet and savory crepes. Doyle Restaurant Group, which franchised The Wine Loft, is franchising locations of La Crepe Nanou. The mall location is set to open a month after Pluckers Wing Bar opens in the former Bennigan's site.

Rotolo's plans Perkins location

Rotolo's Pizzeria plans to open a restaurant in the Panache Plaza shopping center on Perkins Road. Mitch Rotolo says the plan is to open the restaurant by Oct. 1. Panache Plaza is now under construction on Perkins, between Essen Lane and Bluebonnet Boulevard. Rotolo says he's wanted to move into the Perkins area for a while, because of the good demographics. "This was a very difficult market for us to find a suitable location for our price point," he says. The new restaurant will be identical to the 17 other Rotolo's locations in Louisiana and have 30 employees and seating for about 80 people. The city-parish Planning Commission is set to vote Monday afternoon on a rezoning request that will allow the restaurant to sell beer and wine. Rotolo's is in the middle of a local building boom. A Walker restaurant opened last week, and a location in New Roads is slated to start serving food next week. And Rotolo plans to open a new restaurant and corporate headquarters on Millerville Road by the end of the year.

"Five Guys coming to LSU, Towne Center

"Brick House Tavern + Tap planned for Mall of Louisiana

The first Brick House Tavern + Tap in the state is set to open in October at the Mall of Louisiana. Plans are for the restaurant to open in the old Bennigan’s building, says Todd Denton, mall manager. Brick House is set to go before the city-parish Planning Commission this month to get an alcohol permit. The tavern eatery is owned by Houston-based Ignite Restaurant Group, which owns Joe’s Crab Shack. There are more than 10 Brick House locations across the U.S. The restaurant is aimed at young men, featuring a menu with burgers, chicken wings, sloppy joes and tater tots, along with plenty of TVs, Brick House girls as waitresses and 100-ounce “beer bongs.”"

^Haha. Sounds like a the pub version of Hooters.

The old Bennigan's is currently being renovated to become a Pluckers. I like Pluckers, but I am not sure thats a good location for their chain.

Is Pluckers going to be in the mall? I drove by today and they are building something in front of the mall on Bluebonnet (near Red Lobster).

If not then Pluckers inside the mall is a bad idea, ESPECIALLY if there's no outside direct entrance. Who wants to walk thru a mall to get to a wing and sports bar?
