Growing fast we are! I've seen some figure that put Springfield at 600,000 in 2020. Of course that is if we don't add anymore counties, which will happen. I could see a population of around 700,000 by then if we added taney, stone, and lawrence. Christian county is suppose to double it's population by 2020 according to census! Christian county is in the top 50 fastest growing counties in the country! Let me find that link.

Christian County, home to Nixa and Ozark, still in the top 100 fastest-growing counties in the United State!

(From U.S. Census Bureau.)

In July 1, 2006, Christian County had a population of 70,514. 29.9 percent went up from 54,285 in 2000.

In Greene County, the population as of July 1, 2006, was 254,779, 1.7 percent went up by from 250,473 a year ago.

Exciting, isn't?

Very Exciting. The great thing is that the "experts" say this area is just seeing a taste of what is to come. Christian County will double by 2020 and Greene is to hit almost 350,000 by 2025!

WOW, I just realized that Greene county alone almost gained 5,000 residents in one year! That is a very impressive number to say the least!

Gulp... :alc: I'm with ya! I wish Springfield would do a speacial census. With all the appartments, lofts, condo's, homes, etc... I bet we are much more far ahead than that number, it just doesn't make sense. Plus our city is becoming more and more dense. In fact we are more dense than Kansas City, Little Rock, Nashville, and Oklahoma City! Thats a very, very, impressive number for our city. You will start to see more and more upscale developments coming to town especially downtown.

It will only be a matter of time before Springfield and Branson are merged as an MSA. That would put the population (with the addition of Stone and Taney counties) somewhere around 480-490,000!

Welcome to Urbanplanet.org!

When I was surfing around, I found out that u said being homesick for looking at pictures of Rochester, NY.

I went to there for college... R.I.T. BIG PLACE. And it so *#@&*@& cold during winter.

Yeah I was born and raised. I lived in Cincy/NKY for two years too. I would never move back to Rochester. Outrageous taxes, bad winters, declining/stagnant population, and depressed economy. I love the Springfield/Branson/Lebanon area.

Yeah, I just wonder when they will do it. The exchange rate is outrgous and we still have yet to merge. I also know that Lawrence, Dade, and Barry (will most likely be swing county for NWA metro too) counties will someday be in our metro as well.

Something fishy.... I just drove up on way by West Bypass saw a new sign says Springfield's Population is 151,523. I thou it was currently 150,298.

151,523 is Springfield's official year-2000 census population. That is the number that they will use on signs until the year-2010 census, no matter how the actual current population fluctuates. 150,298 is the estimated population from 2005, but it will not ever be used on any official city limit signs. The only exception to this would be to get some sort of official special census. But under normal conditions, only the national census numbers that are counted every 10 years are officially used.

To further my point: Even though Nixa's current population is estimated at around 17,000, they will not use anything other than the official year-2000 census number (12,124) until the next official count in 2010 even if there has been a great amount of growth.

The signs in Nixa said 4 thousand something (1990 census) until the 2000 census came out and they could more accurately say 12,124.

Actually, in 20 years it will be 2027 ;)

Also, i dont think they are using accurate estimations of springfields population since the last census, becuase its going up, not down. I think the 2010 census will show springfield has acctually grown, because there have been a lot of apartments added inside city limits since 2000.

Oh yeah, I lives in apartment... which have four floors! I see everywhere apartment complexes around the city limit!

I dont't think the 2007 numbers will come out for about 5 months. I don't think the 2006 numbers came out last year until may or june.

:P , I got Springfield MSA 2006 numbers from last April. I just have no patience for these numbers because I want to beat Springfield, MA by about 2,000 population... since Springfield, MA have been slow declining. So, we can be number #1 in nation by "Springfield".
