Mobile Mayor Sam Jones wants to set votes for the first Tuesday in October for annexation in four areas: a section of Theodore and Tillman's Corner, a subdivision and commercial stretch along Moffett Road, two subdivisions along Snow Road, and the Windmill Place subdivision just west of Cody Road. If approved, the annexations would increase city population by about 4,000 and increase revenues by as much as $10 million.

I went to the council meeting yesterday! and I'm happy that the council will hold annexation elections in those areas,

I hope all of them pass. If it does this will be great news!! At one of the council meetings in august Mayor jones said 8 more communities have asked to start working on a plan to join the city.

According to the Press-Register, voters in the Theodore area and Windmill Place subdivision voted to enter the city, but the Moffett Rd area and Dominion and Wellington subdivisions voted against annexation.

Does anyone know what this means for city population and revenue?

Well, its okay that moffett road didn't annex. Just sucks that semmes may incorporate and cut off the last northern part of the city's border to annexation.

So the city has gained about 2,800 people last night. the city will recieve an estimated $8 million per year in sales taxes from tillman's corner and theodore. That is not including car tag revenue, gas taxes, prepared food (restaurant) taxes, lodging taxes at all the hotels in TC, future property taxes in 5 years, and business licenses fees.

City officials say there won't be more annexation elections until after the August 2009 municipal elections, but there is apparently some interest in several neighborhoods. Interestingly, if all four of the areas in the recent vote had been combined into one, all of those areas would have been annexed.

It seems that the annexation rumors are rumbling again. There may be another vote in some of the old areas again and some new ones. But sadly they wont happen for another few months. I'm estimating sometime just after Mardi Gras. I'm curious about which neighborhoods and how many people are going to be included. I know the city is trying to count and gain as many people during the 2010 census.
