Joe and Andrew,

Those photos were taken yesterday the 31st. The pre-cast for the parking ramp is installed as far as I know. The apartment/condo building is being poured. They are now working on the top two condo levels now. I'll try to find out when they plan on starting the office building on the Weston Street side.

I really don't think they would open up the parking ramp before construction is completed. they still have the office building on Weston to go yet.

The office manager at Locus Development made this comparison of current construction and a rendering in PDF and said I could post it here.

The big crane is gone and they are working on the first level of the parking ramp with construction to begin soon on the office building along Weston Street.

They have begun framing the apartments on the second level.

Email I sent to Terri DeBoer:

Subject: 38 Reality Check

Hiya Terri,Great job with the 38 segment. Free advertising for Locus Development, lol ! Working at Weston Apartments, I have enjoyed taking photos and short videos of the 38 Commerce project along with the Gallery on Fulton project from the roofs of the two Weston Apartment buildings. Just thought I would provide a bit of a reality check on what it will be like for residence that will be living at 38 Commerce. It will be fairly quiet and nice during the day except for a fire truck and/or ambulance going by a few times a day. Fire station is just down the street across Division Ave. Pros and cons with that. Fast responses but noisy. The reality check will be the noise when the bars let out. From what I hear from residents at Weston Apartments and 101 South Division it can be real bad. I'm wondering how bad it will be with the parking ramp just outside their apartment or condo. Other than the bar noise and occasional fire truck going by it will be a nice place to live. Some may be concerned about living next to the two low income Weston Apartments buildings but I don't think that is much of a problem. Years ago there were a lot of problems at the 21 Weston building but it has improved a great deal over the last 5 to 7 years. Another reality check is the convenient parking ramp right there is handy but visitors may not like having to pay for parking every time they come to visit. But there is a bus stop real close that could save on parking expenses for visitors. Even Weston Apartments have limited parking for residents and no parking for visitors. Some residents and visitors park more than a few blocks away for free parking. Best Always,~Johnhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/johne777http://twitter.com/johnegr

The facade appears to be made of light yellow brick. I'm a little disappointed there -- the renderings had me expecting masonry or at least some sort of imitation of it. Also, the brick seems to have obvious seams between each floor, making it look like it's just large brick panels -- even though I know it isn't as I've watched them lay the brick piece by piece. Hopefully this will be covered up somehow, otherwise it looks like poor craftsmanship almost like Monroe Center & Ionia.

Yellow brick? I didn't see that coming!
