SouthEnd Midrise Projects

Losing CM and the food truck lot is seriously depressing. The empty lot I can understand... but the CM building is historic (for Charlotte). Nothing they build there can ever replace the charm of that courtyard. Since South End is getting a new tex-mex place, let's just tear down Phat Burrito too while we're at it. Ugh.

Wow...just wow.  What a dreadful, awful, atrocious, despicable, cringe-worthy piece of reporting.

The headline makes you think the story is going to tell you about some of the transformative projects taking place in Southend.  Instead they choose to highlight a company buying up properties to make room for parking and follow that up with a little nugget about the Quiktrip.  Never mind the Gold District, the influx of craft breweries/cideries/distilleries, DFA, the 25 story residential tower, or the thousands of apartments under construction.

They go on to talk about the Sedgefield shopping center being torn down, but claim there is no word on what will go in its place when the plan for Sedgefield has been mentioned in multiple outlets over the past several months.

Jayvee...why don't you apply for NBC Charlotte and go help them out.  From the looks of it they need it.

Your first mistake was ever clicking on a "news" link from a local TV station. Unless it is a weather report from Brad Panovich, it isn't worth a click.

Something called Brewcade Taproom coming to 1300 S Church...it's a 1 story small industrial builing there now....this is right across Quincy St from the Flores office building.

Guessing another throw-back arcade and drinkery.

Finally, I was waiting for this to get its ball rolling. Given Abari is 4 months behind schedule, I don't see this opening any time soon

Actually that's the planned renovation to Paradise Island Divers.  It's been on the market for a while.  Still super ugly so i hope they don't find a tenant.

Not sure if "another" counts until Abari actually opens. Maybe they underestimated the ALE permit process, but it seems like they've ground to a halt.

We drove by Abari last night and there is a new (at least that I think it is new) "For Lease" sign out front.  Is there more than one space available in that building or is the barcade project about kaput?

I know it's not midrise....but whatever.  Glad to see something non-office going into this Hawkins building.  They did a good job renovating it.  If I am correct, the space being leased out is the corner closest to the light rail and not Hawkins?

The site plan is misleading. The space closest to the light rail is already occupied by a marketing company. The restaurant will be fronting Hawkins.

In related news, Icehouse is closed and will now be called Bonz Smoke & Taphouse. My guess is this is just a very light remodel and rebranding to increase business for the +/-2 years until their lease is up and Atherton is redeveloped.  http://www.bonzcharlotte.com/
