Green Gathering: Actions is Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Harrison Park Elementary School from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Please park and use the Muskegon Street entrance.

Plan conecpts that capture the public's input will begin to create a vision for what an implemented plan would look like. Five special study areas, including the Grand River, Butterworth Landfill, 201 Market, Joe Taylor Park, and Ball-Perkins Park will integrate the community's ideas into a series of achievable plans. Citizens will be asked to identify partnering opportunities and funding strategies and to prioritize the City's work plan.

If you are unable to attend Green Gathering: Actions, please look for our "Actions Priorities" survey at www.greengrandrapids.ust.gif

I feel like GR has been really pushing its LEED certified buildings (for good reason!). However, I would love for the city as a whole to embrace and strive toward having a 'green' reputation.

As Veloise mentioned, public recycling would be great. I live downtown, and cannot get normal recycling service- have to go to a center, which can be difficult if you don't go every week because of space issues.

I also would love to see the City ban styrofoam containers. There are plenty of other options. For example, I only go to West Coast Coffee if I have a mug, since they serve styrofoam. Also, many restaurants will put your leftovers in styrofoam boxes, so I have to ask first and then get foil. Even the GRAM, which is LEED certified, has plastic cups at lunch, and will bring you another plastic cup if you need a refill. All of this seems to go against what could be a very fantastic reputation for being 'green'.
