Virginia Beach TCC Joint Library

The City of Virginia Beach and Tidewater Community college will be breaking ground on a Joint Library for residents and students. Here is abit of information regarding the project.

Size:

• 120,000 square feet – roughly one-third bigger than the Meyera E. Oberndorf

Central Library.

Cost:

• $53 million total (including equipment and furnishings)

• $42 million from the state

• $11 million from the city

Location:

• Corner of Rosemont Road and Faculty Drive, at TCC’s Virginia Beach campus

Patrons:

• The library will serve the general public and the TCC-Virginia Beach Campus

community. The campus serves more than 20,000 students a year. The city’s

population is about 436,000.

Schedule:

• Estimated construction start: Mid-2010

• Estimated completion: Early 2012

Very cool! I love the design. It's a little bit bigger than the Trible Library at CNU, and I have to admit I have a bit of a soft spot for the modern design :) And I agree with urbanlife -- I always envisioned a sort of 'landmark' library building in the VBTC area -- something like the massive Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, but on a bit of a more VB appropriate scale.

An awesome start, nevertheless :)
