This week’s bits and pieces:

Both of these next articles are a big disappointment.

The Tennessee Hospital Association has decided to move from their current location off of Nolensville Rd. to a new yet to be built facility in Brentwood. This is actually in Cool Springs but on the Brentwood side.

I heard this morning that Jim Reed Hyundai and Suburu sold. This could accelerate some of the redevelopment of the dealership properties between Broadway 17th Church and 15th. Most of that has been on hold but I think they finally are throwing in the towel on the car operation.

According to this morning's Tennessean, the new owners intend to stay... new name Downtown Subaru and Downtown Hyundai... so I guess there will be car dealers along there for the foreseeable future....

I really don't like the dealerships taking up so much valuable, underused real estate, but I understand why they like the location. I'd rather see all that frontage along Broadway filled with density; retail, restaurants, living space. A friend visiting from NYC described that stretch of Broadway as "so suburban," and she is correct.

Beaman owns a huge area on the other side of West End that goes almost to the round about. Not only that, they own a huge lot on the other side of 12th Ave. past the interstate. They have built a couple of new buildings on thier property as well which means they are probably not going anywhere for a while. I agree with all of you that the days of the downtown dealerships should be over for a city the size of Nashville. I am just glad I dont have to pay the property taxes on that land and I dont understand how they are able to compete with other dealers.

So did a little driving today and noticed that Belmont has torn down an old house next to their health sciences building that will be the future location of a 4 or 5 story building to break ground in May I believe. Also noticed that a lot of work has begun on Pine St Flats.

I need to check that out. Do you recall if it is a dorm building or something else?

A couple of items of note from the NBJ today.

Yet another blow for Hickory Hollow. This was the Sears my former fiancee worked at for a few years until 2003. She said it was clearly deteriorating at that time as Sears decided to aim lower with its clientele. Unfortunate, but yet not terribly surprising.

This. Would. Be. Fantastic. Especially if it's the big box.

Look for a very ambitious plan for this property. They have 32 acres to work with and I will bet there will be a considerable investment in this area. I am looking forward to the final plan.
