According to today's BizSense, developer Fountainhead Properties is looking to redevelop the Manchester site of the old Richmond Paper Board Co. building into a pair of sixteen story towers. <----- EDIT: This is a hyperlink to the article

It sits right behind the flood wall and would be a pretty big boost to the growing skyline in Manchester.

11-story building proposed for the eastern end of Tobacco Row. Church Hill NIMBYISM prevented a similar iteration last year. For what it's worth it looks much better than the previous renderings for the site.

This is actually a lot across the street from the previous Pear St. proposals.  I would love to see this, a new Pear St. development and the Echo Harbor lots filled in and finally have development connecting Rocketts to the city.

Here is more detail on the apartment building going up on 19th st.

"This rendering of Canal Walk 5 shows a 76-unit apartment building going up off 19th Street in Shockoe Bottom. This building will be a prototype for a similar building that Historic Housing plans to build in Scott's Addition."

Developers outline plans for bus barn

Plans for the transformation of the former bus depot along West Cary Street will aim to extend Carytown across the Boulevard, developers said Thursday.

Chris Johnson and Tom Dickey of The Monument Cos. presented what they envision for the 7-acre site at 101 S. Davis Ave. to a room of about 40 people at John B. Cary Elementary School.

Initial plans call for 280 apartments, 15,000 square feet of commercial space and 320 parking spaces. Two sites of new construction on Cary Street and at the corner of Grayland Avenue and South Robinson Street are included in the plans. Seven historic buildings will be renovated using historic tax credits.

To me, this project is very underwhelming. It's an urban area, give it some density and height!  In the RTD article, the developers admit that they could do much more...well, why don't they!?  Scared of a few NIMBYs?!  Gee, is this what development in Richmond is coming to?

Here's how every project goes - Dear group of concerned citizens - we propose to have "X" at this location.  Citizens reply - Where will we park!  Every time.......I go down town all the time, never park in a deck, never pay, other than meters, but get a spot every time, everywhere, you just have to be able to accept that you aren't going to park right at the main entry to "X"

I mean, really...Richmond is a CITY - how can these people expect the conveniences of suburban life in Downtown Richmond?!  Folks need to get a new mindset - the city is growing and becoming more urban.  Lack of parking happens (but you don't experience it - funny).  It just might be the catalyst necessary for a good mass transit system.

Looks like more development in Union Hill

The Better Housing Coalition has plans to renovate the 7,500-square-foot Citadel of Hope building at 2230 Venable St. and construct a new apartment building next to it on Jessamine Street. The total project is estimated at $6.8 million and will add 48 mixed-income units to Union Hill.

If the block looks unfamiliar here is also a picture of what it looked like in 2002.

Looks like the city is developing a plaza on broad street for a new Maggie L. Walker Monument. The city will get rid of the tree and put in a plaza with a statue for gathering and appreciating Maggie L. Walker.
