Hilltop House
By zalo
Description: Bud Baker, former CEO of Wachovia Bank, transformed a 1960s hotel property in downtown Winston-Salem into an $8 million, 104-unit apartment development called Hilltop House recently finished off the development with the recent completion of a 50-unit building in July constructed by Frank L. Blum Construction Co.

Hilltop House is made up of four buildings, three of which are renovated hotel structures. Mike Ryan, general manager at Hilltop House, said the development’s first three buildings are nearly full and some tenants are moving into the new building immediately.

Baker said Hilltop House has generated plenty of interest, particularly among younger people who want to live downtown, and the complex has a waiting list.

“We’re happy with it and the response has been very good,” Baker said. “They are primarily young. They are price-conscious. We don’t have as many older people.”

Monthly rents at Hilltop House range from $550 to $1,450.
