When will the downtown trolley loop be completed?

I will be serving on the trolley commitee for downtown Greensboro but I think we are leaning more towards rubber tire trolleys to start with. Ultimately I'd like to see the rail trolley as in Charlotte. Rail trolleys are more fun to ride than buses that look like trolleys. they also attract more retail and residential investment along the rail lines.

So very exciting! A new era has begun for Charlotte!! I'd love to have the loop completed right now, I think it's really needed, I know I'd use it. Downtown Charlotte is much bigger than it looks. I think connecting all of the wards together would be beneficial to the center city economy and the future of downtown. Great pictures monsoon! I really enjoyed them!

I stand corrected. There are still only 3 lines, but the red and blue lines have been dramatically elongated. The red line now covers more of trade street (but no longer goes through fourth ward), and the blue line now runs through both first and fourth wards, along with its original route through third and second wards.

Here's a PDF map showing the new routes

A few questions, observations and curiousities. Quite "loaded' however....

* If the 3 new replicas are eventually to join Car 85, whether used for special events and/or full commuter services on the Charlotte Trolley Line, why is there only 1 track? Such as shown in this pic by monsoon:

If the trolley cars need to go back and forth and there are additions to their frequencies, wouldn't there need to be 2 lines?

* Joining the already exsiting hotels and Convention Centre, the busier the line becomes, the more developments such as condos, retail complexes, office buildings and possibly a couple more hotels are more than likey to eventuate.

* Are the schedules for Car 85 still as below or have the 7.00AM starts come into play as yet?

Mon-Thur 11am to 7:30pm

Sat 10am - 11pm Sun 10am - 6pm

Sat 10am - 11pm Sun 10am - 6pm

* Lastly, has the Downtown Rail Loop started preliminary construction works as yet and is there a map showing how many stations/stops there will be? Will it cross the existing Charlotte Trolley Line to make it an integrated system?

The Winston-Salem journal reported about a year ago that the city council was seriously thinking about rail trolleys there as well the plan would be built in stages like in Charlotte and it would connect Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center all the way to the downtown Piedmont Triad Research Park. The Unity Place development (and now the ballpark) would also be included in that line. Its been a year and I havent heard anything since but i'm sure the proposal is still on the table. They are thinking far ahead of Greensboro at this point. While the Gate City wants to eventuall have a rail trolley line running through downtown connecting NC A&T State University and UNC-Greensboro, Greensboro seems to be focusing on a rubber tire system first. Charlotte, Wilmington, Raleigh and Winston-Salem have had them for a number of years already. I've heard nothing about streetcars in downtown Raleigh. They're focus seems to be the regional commuter rail.

Thanks for the great pics guys! Now that Ive given up my cozy post as the source of downtown info in Charlotte, I have to watch the city from afar in Raleigh. I waited forever for that thing to run and as soon as I leave, there it is! It looks great and I plan to ride this weekend, maybe on the 4th to see the fireworks.

As far as a downtown loop, thats the one of the final projects in the 2025 plan. The next street car line will bisect this one running east west from Eastland mall to Johnson and Wales and JC Smith.

Absolutely great photos, monsoon!!! I love this trolley project. I've been watching the pictorial progress of this project for a long time and I am glad to see it delivered to the public. Really nice!!! From the photos it looks like the people responded to this means of transportation. That's good news.
