that is only a page on the archititures website: I found that and had to take off the ending of the url to get to their site

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The point, though, is that on the page I linked to is a mention of Harbor's Edge -- and that's their total acknowledgment of its presence.

Haha. I too had googled "harbor's edge" norfolk for a long time, only to find almost nothing. It does seem a little strange to not even have a rendering on the site or any way for seniors to contact them, unless they were already sold out.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

from my understanding they are sold out.

Yes, that may be true, but they have not always been sold out. I highly doubt they just asked a bunch of seniors if they wanted to move into a new CCRC, and it sold out like that. That is my point. There has never been a website for this development that I know of, and I have searched months and months ago.

I thought they said buddy was going to make condos out of it? Now they are talking about demolishing it? I think they need to perserve it.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I can't remember what they said about it, but I definiately think it needs to be preserved also. I don't mind so much if an old one-two story building gets destroyed, but this is a multi-story building that is famous and needs to stay.

I have always thought this building had a lot of character. I hope the right developer can be found for it. As I have said in the Fort Lauderdale thread and elsewhere, it's unfortunate that growing cities can't simply stop, breathe for a moment, and contemplate what they are doing before they unsheath their long knives on their irreplaceable histiric fabric. It's inevitable that some buildings will be lost, but at least a few of them could be incorporated within the new development- at least partially so.

This thing sold out very quickly, from what I understand. And in a way almost exactly as you "highly doubt". Norfolk had been losing that market to Virginia Beach, with Westminster-Canterbury, and now it can be kept "home".

Good and I think they were talking about possibly building a twin i heard somewhere too. I think that would be cool too. We need a place for our seniors so they can enjoy the urban envirnoment as well.

well, I take back what I said then. There should be enough demand then for this "twin" that might be built. I say make it twice as tall as the first!! :D

Looks like we have another mixed use development coming downtown. Stay tuned.

"OSWALD HOFFLER, JR., for the following applications:

        1. To amend The General Plan of Norfolk, 1992 depicts from commercial/office to mixed uses

        2. To change the zoning from I-1 (Limited Industrial) District to D-2 (Downtown Regional) District on property located on the northeast corner of Tulip Lane and Posey Lane; property fronts 264 feet, more or less, along the northern line of Tulip Lane and 42 feet, more or less, along the eastern line of Posey Lane; property also fronts 228, more or less, along the southern line of Brambleton Avenue; premises numbered 549 Brambleton Avenue; The purpose of the rezoning is to facilitate a mixed use development"

Oswald Hoffler wouldn't be related to armada hoffler would he?

Below is a map of where the project is to be located.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well it looks like that mixed use development going north of Brambleton will be about 11 stories. 94 condos, retail, office. Here are the details. Warning! .pdf file.

I'll have this added to the projects listing by the end of the night. Wish it could be taller but in that location it's probably about right.

Also, keep in mind that the TCC project started off at 11 stories and look what happened to that. In it's location it should compliment Granby Tower, that 18-20 story Kotarides development, and the nearby already existing radisson quite nicely. We definately have a secondary skyline in the making here. :)
